I love working on cars but really didn't start working on them til after I was out of college and I already had a great technical degree in something else (electronics).
My brother doesn't have an automotive degree either or any college degree but he's a GM mechanic. Got lucky and worked his way up the ladder, started at the walmart tire center. Wasn't all luck though, he's a very fast worker and spends the money on good tools. He also has a LT1.
