IIRC the PCM can only manage 7k rpm....with that said you would need a seriously built motor with the best parts and a very large cam to ever get into that RPM range
Generally stock motors you want to stay below 5700 rpm. Built motors with a good cam run to about 6500 rpm....but you want a very good rotating assembly and valve train to put up with that for engine longevity96 BBB 383/T56

Stock you cant afford to run it past 5800 or so. I have a stock rebuilt bottom end with ARP hardware throughout, lt4 hotcam, new speedpro forged pistons, new oilpump with GM white springs. Im running a 24x on it and I continuously rev it to 6500 rpm without issue.
The weak links are the connecting rod bolts. IF you stretch them your done.

Pfffff, 5800? 6300 is more like it. And you have to go to 6300 on the stock heads and cam with long tubes for fastest time down the track. 6300 is the rule of thumb for self aligning rockers, rule of wrist is 6600 for stock rod bolts. 7100 is the rule of thigh for the stock PCM.

All this talk about turning to what RPM and no talk of what RPM is even making power. I have a well built stroker capable of turning towards 10k...however, the dyno shows 496whp at 6158 and then a decline so my rev limiter is set to 6500...why spin to the moon if its not doing anything productive? Unless you just like to make noise.
