LM7 5.3L
okay so i got my little brothers 2001 chevy 1500 extended cab with a 5.3 LM7 that has 246,000 miles ... he got a new truck and i got his old one ... i know this truck has been very well taken care of but i know very little about the "LS motors" because i have a better motor in the beaterbird.
well i have heard of people taking junkyard motors and boosting these 5.3 and making good power .... i am wanting to make the truck a little faster but i dont know if with this many miles if i should just drive it as is or if i can have a little fun. the oil psi reads at like 60psi at idle so good pressure there. it runs smooth ... so where to begin?Last edited by zooguy; 07-03-2016 at 01:25 PM.

Unless the trans has been built, just drive it. I just replaced the 60e in my Dad's '00 Silverado and it was a major PITA. Just drive it unless you want another money pit.
My 06 (5.3 1500 4x4) has 227k and doesn't skip a beat. I have a CAI for it, but I'm deathly afraid of grenading the trans so it gets babied everywhere. CAI and tune is in it's future, mainly for efficiency and to try and prolong the life of the trans.

My neighbor has a suburban with nearly 400k on it. All original power train and still runs like a champ. I say if you wanna do exhaust and CAI, and maybe a little tune fine tuning... go for it. but dont go boosting it at this point. Keep it the reliable driver that it is. Thats just my opinion man... ultimately, you do what makes you happy.
