Thread: Is it worth it?

Longer is not always better, if it bottoms out in trans, thats bad.

I forget the exact number but there is a rough number of translating axial movement you want in the trans output housing. But from what I am getting you want the yoke to take up the short DS length vs making a longer DS?

Correct... was just a thought, instead of getting a new ds. Just getting a yoke that is 1" longer since its short now.

Gonna be a lot of whipping on the splines with the yoke farther out, BUT, they are sold so people obviously do it.

Have you contacted any DS makers, Denys, PST, Strange, etc? I would get their thoughts and go with that.

I had spoken to a local drive shaft spot to have my chromoly one lengthened (yes lengthened), however Idk that its worth the cost as compared to getting a replacement one.

That was my concern about the longer yoke as well.

I guess that will have to be my next step, to call a shop and see how they feel about a yoke thats 1" longer.

I have the aluminum PST and I think it was around $480 from a vendor on LS1tech. 3.5", 120 wall, forged yoke, and Moser 9 length. Didn't have to take any measurements (vendor already knew specs) and the fitment was perfect.

Went with the aluminum over chromoly because of 3.90 gears. The aluminum is smoother and has a higher critical speed. My previous experience with the stock steel shaft and short gears wasn't very pleasant.
