Carb swap compression ratio?
I'm helping a friend build a 355 LT1 to swap into his 89 SWB 2wd C1500. We're going to convert to carburetion and plan to run LE1 heads. What would a good CR target be considering it will be carbureted? Planning on running 93 octane. Thanks in advance.

Since you're going with Le heads I would talk with Lloyd about that as well as a cam. Depending on what is goals and usage are I'm guessing he will suggest somewhere between 11.5 and 12.0

if its an auto with no stall and going to be used as a "truck" (towing, etc) just a stock compression 10.5 to 1 comp. ratio and very mild cam (215 or less @ .050) can be used.
If its gonna be used as a "heavy Camaro" and no towing, just streety rod and some track use a larger cam and more compression can be used depending on what gear, rear tire ht and stall is used.

Thanks Lloyd. This truck is his secondary vehicle so he's looking for a street/occasional strip setup. Pretty sure he's planning on a 27" tire, 4.11 gears, and a pretty loose converter. I showed him your heads/cam package and he's very interested. We'll be giving you a call soon!

A flat top piston with eye brows (NOT a dish or dome) will be fine.
Exact piston (-4, -5, -8cc, etc) used, deck ht and head gasket thickness will control the exact compression but anywhere in the 11.3-11.8 range will be fine.
4L60 trans with 3200-3600 stall I would do a 227/235 .565/.579 108 LSA up to a 231/239 .571/.587 108 LSA cam with the carb..
If its a TH 350 trans and/or less stall I would do a 223/231 .557/.571 110 LSA cam.
