Flushing Power Steering Fluid
So my power steering has been whining pretty good recently, so I checked the fluid level and its a bit low. But man does the fluid look gross. Advice on how to go about flushing it? What I have done on other cars in the past is get the car in the air, disconnect the fluid lines, then turn the wheels by hand lock to lock until all of the fluid is out of the system. Then we hooked the lines back up filled the reservoir with fluid and went lock to lock until we didn't see bubbles any more. Then we fired it up and went lock to lock with the steering wheel. Sound like a good plan? Advice?

that would work but it seems like it would take a few times to get it clean...i usually use a suction device through the resorvior, and suck out as much as i can or until it starts whining, then fill it back up and go turn the wheel lock to lock a couple time. then repeat all this several times until fluid is clean..

It's not the best method, but I replaced as much fluid as I could in my truck recently. I used a spray nozzle from a windex bottle or whatever, stuck the hose in the reservoir and just sprayed the fluid through the nozzle and into an empty plastic container. It didn't get all the fluid out, but most. Topped it off with Lucas power steering fluid and it's been much quieter ever since.
I got the idea from a guy changing his supercharger oil on a 3.8L GTP.
