iron vs aluminum headed engine
Hey my formula has a iron headed lt in it what do these dyno at stock as compared to a aluminum headed engine

Well unless someone put iron heads on ur lt1... that motor is out of a b-body. If im not mistaken... those were about 265@ the crank.

the iron heads flow better than the aluminium heads stock to stock.... but the iron heads are about 20lbs heavier each side and hold heat better (heat soak) the reason it makes less power is the cam in the b-bodies is way smaller the the f-body and corvette cam.

The reason I got this motor is because when I bought the car the engine had low compression I got this engine from a running trans am and when they pulled it that's when I realized that It had iron heads

The flow difference is marginal between the two. I think it's like a 10 cfm advantage on the intake for the iron heads but the aluminums are inherently better because smaller chamber and screw in studs.

Anytime I look at an iron headed lt1 I always check to make sure it says "5.7" on the back and now "4.3". I bought a baby lt1 by accident once. Fortunately the guy (after convincing him they did exist) gave me a generous portion of my money back.
