383 build question concerning rods.
has anyone used the sbc 400 5.56 rods building a 383 lt1? im planning on using my 2pc rear main eagle 3.75 crank with an adapter. i dont want to bore my block just use the 5.56 rods with flat tops?

Well.... If memory serves me right, the 400 crank has the standard stroke of 3.75, if using the stock 400 rods, you would also have to use 400 piston (to accommodate the rod length) Machining is required regardless, in order to clear the crank and rod caps of the rods, regardless of length. The 5.56 rod would also cause additional side loading on the cylinder walls, make ring wear uneven. Could also affect ring seal as well.
I personally would suggest you to use 5.7 or 6.0 rods.
I have never come across a LT1 with that size of rod.
there are others here with more experience, i am sure that can counter or confirm my somewhat educated guesses....97 SS Camaro M6 - 383 LT1, Scat Rotating assembly, KB Icon flattops (11.8:1), HBR ported heads, LE 244/252@.050 107 LSA, Speed engineering Stainless Longtubes/ORY, 42.5# sprayers, Racetronix Pump, more to come

well i have a whole rotating assembly from my gen 1 383 i built, eagle crank 6.0 rods. i have read i can use the crank with the rear main adapter but not sure, and i was not wanting to bore my block just hone it so technically it would be a 377 anyways if i cant use the crank then i will get a new one but eagle has 2 different ones, standard 1-piece then the lt1 1-piece and its a 150 dollar difference, plus with no boring i would have to get standard piston for the 4.00 bore to fit the 6.00 rod. i have been reading alot but would like to talk with people with experience.
