Supporting MemberI'd really like to know how that happened on a stock or close to it motor. I would be inclined to believe there are other circumstances involved in that considering I have 4 sitting in a drawer with various mileages over 130k that look good as new.

i wondered too ... i pulled the cam and it was stock and it was the stock drive gear too ... oh well ... i checked my 94 when i had the intake off to fix a leak on the back of the manifold. it has 167,000 and looks great.

Unless you have a cam with billet gear or HV oil pump I wouldn't worry about it.

When i do my intake manifold, use the Right Stuff RTV. Works really well.

I lost 2 oil pump drive gears when I had a billet cam from LE in the car. (stock oil pump) After the first one the cam had a few slight marks on it and no doubt, caused the 2nd one to shit the bed. Ive since installed a lt4 hotcam with the proper melonized GM gear and *knock on wood* all is fine.
As stated above, if your not running a HV pump or a billet cam you should be fine. But ALWAYS change the drive gear when you change cams.

Supporting MemberA proper billet cam will have a cast oil pump drive gear pressed on
