Thread: I'm starting to lose the drive.

I'm starting to lose the drive.
So I'm in the middle of doing a cooling system revamp on my Trans Am. The entire time, I've been bitching and cussing and wanting to get rid of the car.
I know part of it is living in an apartment and limited resources, but any time this car needs work, I just get angry. I was never like that before. I've never been this bitter and angry with my cars. I've ranted about it and all but I knew in the end, I'd be fine. This time around, I'm seriously considering getting rid of both of my cars and getting something new.
Am I just getting less patient as I'm getting older (only 29).

Yep. It only gets worse as you get older too. Add an injury to the mix and you will begin to despise working on cars altogether. Once you start having kids, what once took you a weekend will take a month.

unfortunately, I've read threads like this regarding the lt1 more than I care to say. Not saying it's the engines fault or a design flaw. I'm sure it has more to do with the cars age. Trust me when I say, you are not alone. I am also at a crossroad as to keep or sell my car. I missed work so I spent a few hours trying to figure out my problems. Look at my" egr gas tube" thread. It comes.down to if it's not breaking the bank and if the car is not in the way I guess. Good luck.

I've calmed down a bit, but I'm still having a hard time wanting to work on the car. For some reason, I have a blast doing brake/suspension work. I did a radiator, water pump, upper and lower hoses, oil change, fuel filter and some other odds and ends. The entire time, I was just miserable. Nothing was difficult by any means, everything came apart and went back together as it should, I just really didn't want to do it.
I drove the car, beat on it a bit, and I couldn't help but to think about the rest of the stuff that needs to be done. I sometimes wish I had an assload of money to have someone else do the work, but then I don't have the pride when I drive it.
Age does suck with the car, but most of the assemblies of this car have been apart and everything comes apart fairly easily. Everything but the lower control arms have been off in the front. Torque arm is the only thing that hasn't been unbolted in the rear. Engine has been down to damn near a bare block. Only thing I haven't really dug into is the rear itself and the transmission. Both of which are coming later in the summer.
The most discouraging thing is that the car is starting to rot. I have a rust hole in the front shock tower, and a hole in the floor in the rear. It's not too far gone, but man it's disheartening.

Thats all all part of the diy thing. U said earlier u would just sell everythig and get something newer... That kinda falls under the same thing as u not feeling the pride if u had "an assload of money to have someone else work on it."
If ur getting fed up...set it aside... Come back to it another day...
If u know u dont want it anymore... Put it up for sale... Id hate to see u do that...but like u know... Its an old car...and its only gonna get older.

I had to walk away for almost 3 months before I re-lit the fire to get it together. I'm still chasing my tail but at least it runs now. Just take a breather and grab a beer. Make a list and slowly chip away at it, you should see my excel fire for my projects.

What they said. /\ As I mentioned earlier. I'm in the same boat and it's sinking.....fast! If you really want to keep the car and stuck in a rut PM me. I'll help you try to get through this and you can help me in the same way. I tell you what, if I had a buddy come down to help me out I'm sure i'd hate this car less.
