wow. That looks horrendous. Did you by chance know what brand that one was? GM stock, or something else?

It was stock, car had 130k of hard ass miles from the previous owner, then we bought it for 1,000$. Yes 1 grand, and she started smoking, so we pulled the motor and #7 piston was missing half the entire ring land and was cracked all the way around, everything else was salvageable, a hot cam and crane rockers later this happens, and before this the trans melted, got a built one with a 3500 stall to replace it, put it in, and it doesn't shift, come to find out the pcm was toast, get a new one have it flashed and all is well lol problem after problem!

I have to think there is more to stripping gears than just cam/stock gear stuff. Hv oil pump seems feasible, seems more like plastic drive having alot of play causing deflection and shredding. Got 5k miles on my hotcam/stock high mile gear and 6k on a bullett cam with stock gear. Both have herron billet oil pump drive housings

I'm not sure if the pump is HV or not, it may be, it was a summit rebuild kit, and do you have a thread link to that nova in your SIG? I'd like to see that!

My summit rebuild kit came with a melling HV pump, but I kinda selected it that way through the phone.

Since we're talking novas. Both of urs sound awesome and the paint I see on urs @slownova73 is a gorgeous blue. My dad has a 69 self painted black nova with a sbc 350 with a 150 and now a 300 shot added. Mickey thompsons on rear, he's a welder by trade and he totally revamped the rear end to handle the power, weight reductioned however still street legal. He mainly drives to work occasionally or some fun runs around town. WIll never give it up, ever. Ran 12.6's before the nos and sticky tires. His plan is to blow this motor, blow another 350, and then build up a 4 bolt 350 for a supercharged set-up. He's already got the SC lol. Got to get my motor built first to get out of his garage.
