Opti for just the Optical Sensor
OK, guys I know I have read this somewhere in the past, but figured I would bring it up again since searching sin't helping me.
So we all know the limitations of the opti and since I am building a new engine combo I am debating on engine management and need to get something that will let me rev a 370ish ci LT1 upwards of 8K RPM's. I know there are a ton of options out there for moving away from the opti, but then I wonder how much of an LT1 would I have? So I keep coming back to trying to figure out how to keep the opti for the optical sensor to trigger the engine managemant rather than trying to throw one a crank sensor or anything like that. I would still run a seperate dizzy fro firing the plugs since that is what contributes to killing opti's at higher RPM's, so that should allow the opti to freely spin that high, right?
Also, if I keep the opti, what is the best way to utilize it? Has anyone done it?John Pszenyczniak - Bolt-on only 95 Formula A4 11.561 @ 118.00 w/ 1.572 60' Thanks for parts, advise, and support from the LT1 bolt-on experts at Herron Performance and to Frank Cahall @ CPT for the best Race Rebuilt 4L60E on the market.

How soon you looking to do something? Reason I ask is there is someone working on using the opti to trigger spark for an 0411 pcm....

Oh at this point the build will not be finished for another year, just trying to nail down the engine managment piece and the block isn't even out of the machine shop yet, lol...

I use the Opti cam position module to feed a MoTeC M48Pro engine management system. Added the MoTeC 8-channel ignition driver, and running 8 LS1 coils. I only redline at 7,200 RPM, but a buddy of mine with an 1,125HP Vortech S/C 383 LT1 was using the same setup and spinning 8,000 RPM. The MoTeC isn't cheap, and there are not a lot of authorized tuners. I have the full tuning license and full data logging setup. I got mine used for less than 1/2 the original cost, 14 years ago. They should be even cheaper used at this point.
There are other aftermarket systems that will interface with the Opti cam sensor.SOLD - GONE TO A (VERY) GOOD HOME ! - 94 Formula A3+1: 381ci forged stroker - Callies Stealth, Oliver 5.85 billet rods, BME nitrous pistons / CNC LT4 heads / CC solid roller / TH400+GearVendors OD / 4.11 Strange 12-bolt / 300-shot N2O / Spohn Suspension / roll bar / MoTeC M48 Pro engine management system /a few other odds 'n ends.
