    Default T-56 Magnum or 4L80E?

Just got off of two years worth of night shifts and all the weekend work I could stand a couple of weeks ago and am finally getting the T/A project going again.
I decided to hang on to the AFR 227s for a possible third gen project (Dart SHP Formy 427?) later and just stick with something a 383 can reliably feed, like 195s.
Since I should have the forged short block together in a couple weeks, it is time to consider the transmission. Basically, I am building a low 500 fwhp 383.
I have an S-60 in the rear that is set up with 3.54s (for now). I picked 3.54s for streetability, not really knowing where I might end up as far as tire size and
    transmission type/ratios, it seemed reasonable.
80% of me says go Magnum - that .50 O.D. is really appealing since I like long drives and manuals are just more fun than autos IMHO. I also have designs
on adding a Procharger to the mix maybe next year or two. That might exceed the T-56s 750 pound foot torque handling ability. I know 4L80E/85E can easily deal with over a 1000
pound feet. Properly set up with a 3600 Vigi stall would also be fun, but it just isn't a T-56...

I just want to hear your opinions on which is the better set-up and why you think so -
    Thanks!!!

I tried a 6 speed in my car for about 3 months. Sure it's fun shifting but I prefer a high stall auto. It's more consistent at the track and with the torque multiplication, 30MPH+ rolling burnouts in second gear at part throttle are fun. The 4l80e gear ratios when combined with the right stall speed and rear gear ratio are perfect. Much less RPM drop between shifts.

The low overdrive is not ideal for your car. Youll see it wears out your syncronizers as you downshift all the time. The magnum comes with some more appropriate overdrives versus the factory ones and it is a stronger transmission. I put just below 600fwhp to an essentially stock t56, it kind of survived until the transmission stopped shifting into 5th/6th as I had worn out the synchros from downshifting from 6th to 5th. Downshifting puts wear by speeding up the incoming gear, upshifting slows down the incoming gear. The higher 4,5&,7 gears have less friction material and cone area. Kind of like the difference from a single and double stage clutch.

When you really start comparing the rebuild cost between a built auto vs a built M6 its about the same.

A built trans may be, I doubt it but ok lets say the 80e is the same cost as a T56, now factor in buying clutches rated at the power level..
