Looking for additional power from my 97 LT1
Please keep in mind this is a california car
I have been looking at BBK ceramic coated shorty headers and hooker super comp ceramic coated header. Which do you all prefer? I have to have C.A.R.B approved ones but will these add much if any power to my car?
I am also interested in 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers
better elbow (mine is cracked)
under drive pullies if available
pretty happy with 3.23 gears so staying with that
Any other thoughts?

You've also got the Edelbrock TES headers that are CARB certified and perform rather well.
You should be able to end up with a full exhaust with a high flow cat, cold air intake, and all the internal CARB not needed bolt on'ts (rockers, valve springs, etc). Should easily get the car up to about 300 RWHP, and a baby cam like the Comp 218/224 will put you to mid 340's HP/TQ and stay well within emissions legality.
Being an OBDII car, they don't put you on the sniffer in CA do they? Just a computer scan and visual right?

Better to move to Nevada...lol. But I'll give a +1 on the TES headers. My friend has them on his 3rd gen and they still look great 5 years later.

you could also do some suspension work to help it get off the line faster.

Plus 1 on suspension. More efficient the suspension. The better you can make use of your power.

When you are looking at the WS6 mod results (in the link above) look at the throttle body coolant bypass... 6HP. You could probably make it look like it is still hooked up to satisfy the emissions folks.
Then look at his results for the U/D pullies. Not much HP, and they can cause electrical system charging problems.
Look at his aluminum DS install... picks up some small power at the rear wheels. Synthetic gear lube picks up a small gain.
Defnitely fix the elbow, only if temporary by duct taping it. A crack allows air to bypass the MAF sensor.
PCM tune will pick up 10HP by reducing the overly rich PE mode (~WOT) target A/F ratio. Couple that with a 160*F t'stat and a couple degrees extra ignition advance and lower fan on/off temps.
The alternative to adding HP is reducing weight.Last edited by Injuneer; 11-02-2013 at 10:49 AM.
