MBA thoughts.
I am tossing around the idea of getting a MBA because in this job market I am screwed coming and going. I have military experience and a BS in BA and a buddy with 20 yrs experience in hr told me I am in a catch 22 spot. To the lower paying jobs I am undesirable because they think I will use it as a jumping off point, and to the higher paying jobs I don't have enough real world experience even if my vet preference is taken into account. I am kinda burned out on school but also know if I don't consider it I could be handicapping myself. If any of you have a MBA I would love some real world insight. As for the rest of you feel free to pipe in too.

Hard to say because I think it’s really contingent upon on the industry you already work in to see the value from getting it. For me, as nice of a thought as it is, I would have nothing gain in the short term, long term maybe… But people who work in more finance oriented fields, Private Equity Firms, Investment Banking, MIS, Consulting, etc, I am sure it’s a lot more valuable for them. A lot of friends I know have them from places like NYU, Michigan, Harvard etc but they were all working in the financial field or in a career field where it was important to have one for future opportunity. I knew a girl who worked for a large consulting firm in NYC and they basically told her you need one if you want to move up.
The big thing in my industry is, education is important, but practical experience and work ethic get you moved up. The other issue is, when people want to transition from field roles to office management they tend to be a lot further along in life, kids, families so an MBA is kinda tough to go and get. But I still think a lot of it is current situation based with what your already working in and future movement. A lot of these bigger companies eat education up, so it would expand your opurtunties for the long term.Last edited by Neil350; 07-13-2013 at 04:41 PM.

My wife just got her MBA she went with an accelerated program, one night a week, 12 week blocks, and three classes per block. She had the degree in about 18 months. If you go for it do some research on the school and make sure the MBA program is accredited. I would say go for it, it definitely wont hurt you.
