Doigital MSD 6AL
Has any of you guys used one of these?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LT1-TPI-LT4-Corvette-Trans-Am-Digital-Ignition-Box-6AL-with-Rev-Limiter-MSD-/130781366907?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &hash=item1e732d4a7b&vxp=mtr
I've seen these devices (Not digital) on some other engines, mainly carburated applications and all I know about them is that they provide a rev limiter so you can have the gas pedal pressed to the bottom and using a switch you then deactivate the rev limiter and let the car rev to the sky or to a 2nd rev limiter (if the device has 2 limiters). Is there any other use for this?

An aftermarket ignition box is, IMO, up there with the most overused unnecessary mods for LT1 cars (along with an aftermarket MAF and AFPR). Granted (since you don't list a mod list) your build may actually warrant one but unless you've got a good deal of spray/boost or are doing some serious bracket racing you won't be close to needing one. They also can actually complicate the already adequate and simple ignition system.
I have been running a stock ignition system since I owned the car and on my current 383 without a problem. The stock system is more than adequate for 99% of the guys out there. But if you've got money to spend and are looking for that cool "MSD box look" in your engine bay go for it.Last edited by RamAir95TA; 10-24-2012 at 04:59 AM.

only reason i leave mine in is because im running boost on 1 car and nitrous on the other. but your right, 99% of guys dont actually see any real benifit from a digital ignition.

Thanks for the replies guys, my Formula is almost bone stock, I just wanted to get educated on this stuff since I've seen it's pretty common and looks cool so was wondering what else it provides beyond the rev limiter

I run a 6AL when it dies I am going with the digital verson. Does nothing powerwise but gives me the ability to use a 2 step for consistant launches and a supplemental rev limmiter.
