Question about hvac delete plates.
I have found a couple plates on ebay for under $50 from lre fab. One has strait lines and the other looks pretty cut up just wondering if any one know the benefits of one to the other.

I'm thinking the only reason they are different is the bottom one would be for someone who wants it to look more nice.. But I'm just guessing..

The top one is just the general shape of the hole. The bottom looks like its a copy of the gasket. I made one for my car that bolts in on the engine side and it resembles the bottom one. Just make sure it meets the minimum thickness for nhra tech. I have the specs at home but steel can be thinner than alunimum.

I just finished my HVAC delete with my car keeping the heat. All the block off plates I found are intended to be installed from the interior side of the firewall, that is why you see so many different styles. When installed form the interior side the outer shape doesn't matter because you will never see it and there is ample clearance with all the HVAC box removed.
I didn't want to remove my dash and entire HVAC hardware because I wanted to keep my heat. These plates can be installed from the engine bay side of the firewall but will need some some trimming towards the bottom left corner for the fenderwell. I used a dremel tool and carefully cut the clearance needed. I used the same bolts as the fiberglass HVAC box did and lots of silicone to seal it up.97 Trans Am M6

From the 2012 NHRA Rulebook, general regulations, section 7:4 Firewall
Each car in competition must be equipped with a minimum .032 inch aluminum or .024 inch steel firewall.
It explains that the firewall must extend from side to side and top and bottom of the engine compartment. All holes in fire wall must be sealed with aluminum or steel.-Josh

All in due time. I'll get it soon, I hope.
The plates are .080 5052 aluminum. I just want to make sure I get the one I need, if there is a reason for the different shapes.
If anyone has pictures of past installs that would be very helpful also.Andy
