He mentioned the XFI280 was a bit milder than he thought it would be and eluded to the 113lsa. ive read alot of people who went with this cam thought the same thing and wished they had gone bigger

the 224/230 XFI cam i dont think is enough of a increase over my 218/228 hotcam to justify swapping grinds. it takes some time to swap cams in these motors (compared to a SBC, the LTXs have alot more going on that needs to be R&R'd than the older motors) that id think the new cam going in would have to be a significant step up to justify the time and expense

my current LT4 hotcam has a 112lsa, so the XFI280 will actually have slightly less lope, and a broader powerband. currently i rev my car to 6500 with the relatively smallish hotcam, so with the larger duration XFI grind, id probably go as high as 6800. with the stronger bottom end and lighter valvetrain in the LT4, im sure it can take it. i have a manual trans also, which will make driving in traffic a bit easier than if i had an auto

id really like to have some input from someone that made a direct swap from the hotcam to the XFI280. apples to apples and all that. anyone out there?

one more thing... i did some research and found out i wasnt running comp 981 springs. actually i have a set of Crane springs rated to .600 lift. ill post the exact specs and part #s later
. The xfi280 lopes more than the hot cam and never stops pulling great cam .

    Ai 226 / 234 - .569/.570 - 110 LSA Primary Operating Range: 2000-6200rpm
This is our largest stock long-block cam for auto cars. Lopey idle, good drivability, and excellent mid-range with peak power at approximately 6200rpm. Properly tuned w/ supporting modifications, M6's typically produce 345-360rwhp SAE corrected.
I am definetly a strong believer of this cam. Im running LE's 223/230 cam and it made great power for what it is but im trying to build the most power i can while passing emissions. Im going to swap cams to custom 226/232 cam since i have room to grow and squeeze out some more power. I agree with the OP as going from the hotcam to a 224/230 cam is marginal and likely not be happy with the end result not making up much more power. The XFI 230/236 is slightly on the larger side but can be done as has to be revved out more to make full use of it. Doing that on a stock short is borrowed time. The AI 226/234 cam is right in the middle of both of those cams and sounds like your ticket. There is a guy on this forum by the name of Joeliousz28 and he put down 369rwhp cam only. So when you think of that your looking at a near 25rwhp over that hotcam your running. I believe all he had done was up the compression with a smaller gasket and a bit and light hand porting to his heads.
