Yeah, I did some research and found out that they are built like that and it wasnt a mistake. So I should have them installed monday.

Alright I made some headway on the car today.

I got all of the exhaust out and the tranny pulled. The passenger side slid in with no problems. It was very close to the frame though so I did end up pulling it and denting the number 8 primary. The picture makes the dent look worse than it is. It really didnt make much of a difference but I dont think theres any way it will hit now.

The Drivers side is giving me some problems though. I got it jammed in there and the number 1 primary is hitting the steering knuckle and the number 2 primary is hitting the little tab on the top of the rag joint. Im gonna have to pull it back out and dent the number 1 primary pretty good, or get an LS1 steering shaft. Can I just cut the tab on the top of the rag joint? I wish I would have taken a picture of it.

There was no issues at all with the k member. Ive decided not to do any grinding on the car. I thought about grinding the steering knuckle some but Im scared to. Over all though Im still happy with the headers. My pacesetters on my old formula hit and rattled on the passenger side and hit the steering knuckle to.

Well I finally got the headers in today. I bought some cheap pepboys header bolts that worked great. They are 11mm heads with a special allen socket in the center of them. Were only 9 bucks to. Gaskets seem pretty nice that came with the headers, a lot better than the paper ones that come with pacesetters. I had to BFH the fuck out of the number one primary and move the steering knuckle down some, but everything clears now. I have great oil filter access and plug access seems pretty darn good. I was once again cut short by rain but hopefully will have the tranny and clutch back in tomorrow so I can hear it run.

Poly motor mounts are on the to-do list now. Im not happy with the clearence I have with the knuckle. I bet its actually gonna hit when the motor is torqued over hard.

In the end though NO GRINDING was needed. I could have gotten by without denting the number 4 primary but did so to be safe. It shouldnt affect flow much at all. However I do think where I dented the #1 primary will affect flow some.

I'd rather grind a few things than dent the headers... kind of defies the point of putting them on (flow wont be as good)

Just curious, but why does the LS1 steering shaft help?

I think it moves the knuckle but im not sure. I actually just read how to move the shaft over a little more and I should have a good bit more clearence.

I didnt want to dent the primary either but Im driving my Grandpas truck and he is hounding me wanting it back. I have to get it back on the street this weekend and didnt have time to rig something else up. The dent probably lost me an with inch of flow so it means the number one primary step from 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 back to 1 5/8 for a couple inches. lol. I may be losing 1 or 2 horses but I dont think it will make the install worthless over the stock manifolds.

I did consider grinding the knuckle but got nervous. I really dont want it cracking while driving. It probably would be fine but I want to avoid cutting the car up and taking the chance.

The shop I took my car to wants to drop the k-member. Still cheaper than buying ceramic coated long tubes from any other company... I could've had the same problem with pacesetters for all I know. If I can get around dinging/grinding things I'll be happy.

    How do they sound?

If I would have installed new poly motor mounts and would have known the trick to moving over the steering column I wouldnt have had to dent anything. Im very happy with the headers.

Well I got everything finished up today. The Y-pipe leaks at the drivers side primary and where the y pipe joins together. Im gonna have to take it to an exhaust shop and let them bend it.

I finaly had a chance to get back under the car. I got the y pipe to push further up on the collectors and got rid of the leak. Most of the leak was coming from a rear O2 bung that had came unscrewed.

Car sounds SICK now. Sounds like a GMMG had a lovechild with spintech. I really like how it sounded before but LOVE how it sounds now. Ive ran alot of different setups on these cars and this is my favorite. The Flowtech Afterburner is awesome. I have a total of 400 dollars in my whole exhaust counting headers. I think Im going to add a cutout though because I am running the stock i pipe and tail pipes, I was going to eventually run some duals but have decided against it since Im so happy with this setup.

I want to get some sound clips but I cant get a good one that represents how it really sounds. My cousings HD camera makes it sound very raspy like a glasspack but it sounds nothing like that in person.
