water pump weep hole ideas
From what I understand, coolant leaks out of the weep hole in the wp when it begins to fail. Coolant leaks out and can cause opti failure. I'm thinking about taping in a nozzle and hook up a small hose (about 5/32) to the nozzle. This way if any coolant does leak out it goes to the ground. Also thinking about putting a small container at the end of hose but making the container vented so pressure doesn't build up and coolant actually flows in the container. And this way I could check the WP if its leaking rather than wondering if the coolant spot on the pavement is from my car. Thoughts? I was thinking about doing this next time I flush the coolant out. Or may just go with an EWP but IDK.

I remember this idea was brought up several years ago and it was split down the middle on whether or not it's a good idea. My personal opinion, if you're going to be taking off the water pump to put on a fitting, why not just replace it while it's off, or just do an electric water pump? Doing this modification obviously means that you're concerned that your pump will fail soon (especially if you're on your OEM still).
I see the benefit, but it seems like an awful lot of work. To each their own!-Joe-

I just had the coolant leak from the weep hole on my origional WP. Happened at about 68,000 miles and the car is a 95.
The leak that happens isnt usually a stream, its more like a drip that you would notice on the ground but wouldent cause any damage. Yes, like anything if its left for a looooong time it could do some damage (maybe get inside the opti, mess with the electronics). Im sure if also left for a long time that drip might turn into a stream (as the bearing inside gets more and more play in it).
I had just installed a new MSD opti when my opti shit the bed, and I was also worried about my old WP crapping all over the new opti. It dripped on it a little, but it was all on the front cover and none could have passed the seal.
All in all you have a really great idea, its just you might want to do that to a new one since taking it out for just that is alot of work for not so much benefit. If you had posted this a month or so ago, I may have tried it when I had it outNick
