my PS2 took a dump on me and i cracked it open to see what was the problem, turns out it was this plastic tab that would follow a screw which would position the laser, found that piece on a Hong Kong website and Boom 1.99 and like 2 dollars shipping and my PS2 works like a charm again

I have a 80gb PS3 and it plays PS2 and PS1 games. I heard rumer that Sony is thinking of having a update to have all the systems backwards play. Also the 20gb model does not have wifi. That and its easy to upgrade the HD in the PS3's.

It's not a software issue, it's hardware. The new PS3 doesn't have it AT ALL. Which means you can't load up an emulator or hack it in any way to play PS1 and PS2 games. Your only hope is to pick up an older one that has the emulator engine built in. That's as of right now, until some guru figures it out.

Makes me glad I have an original 60GB PS3, I haven't used my PS2 in years.

From what I hear the 60gb model had it hardware base and the 80gb was using software base to backwards play. When I was on playstation forum they said sony had a patton for software to emulate the emulator engine. That is all rumors though.

Look into emulators. They let you play console games on your computer. If you have a beefy computer and if you are good with computers then its something worth trying. I just got the PS2 emulator working last night with a dvd-image copy of a ps2 game. I heard there is a PS3 emulator out there too. I also play old school nes, super nes, genesis, and N64 games on the computer every once in a while.
