Alternator output rating question
I bought my red Z28 from a fella that installed an Optima red top battery 2/6/2011 & a Duralast alternator 2/13/2011. This morning I was scanning the PCM & saw the ignition volts @11.1, 10.9 with the a/c on. I raised the hood & smelled the alternator burning. O'reillys test meters found the battery & alternator are bad. The car has a Kicker Impulse stereo amp that is probly a 50 amp model, but not much else than stock electronically. It has a MSD vented OPTI, Duralast ICM, & MSD Streetfire coil in it's list of ignition parts installed. Should I install a 140 amp alternator, or one with a higher amperage output rating?
