there was a guy on
www.thirdgen.org who stuck this cam on a stock bottom end L98. topped it off with some AFR 195cc heads, and a aftermarket base manifold with stock runners. amazingly, the combo produced 331rwhp... with the TPI! He mentioned the XFI280 was a bit milder than he thought it would be and eluded to the 113lsa. ive read alot of people who went with this cam thought the same thing and wished they had gone bigger
the 224/230 XFI cam i dont think is enough of a increase over my 218/228 hotcam to justify swapping grinds. it takes some time to swap cams in these motors (compared to a SBC, the LTXs have alot more going on that needs to be R&R'd than the older motors) that id think the new cam going in would have to be a significant step up to justify the time and expense
my current LT4 hotcam has a 112lsa, so the XFI280 will actually have slightly less lope, and a broader powerband. currently i rev my car to 6500 with the relatively smallish hotcam, so with the larger duration XFI grind, id probably go as high as 6800. with the stronger bottom end and lighter valvetrain in the LT4, im sure it can take it. i have a manual trans also, which will make driving in traffic a bit easier than if i had an auto
id really like to have some input from someone that made a direct swap from the hotcam to the XFI280. apples to apples and all that. anyone out there?
one more thing... i did some research and found out i wasnt running comp 981 springs. actually i have a set of Crane springs rated to .600 lift. ill post the exact specs and part #s later
