Edelbrock heads
I know everyone says that the lt1 edelbrock heads aren't worth it, but is there any advantages over the stock heads? I'm building a 383 and was gonna get the stock heads ported and polished, but came across a decent deal and was wondering if they would be any better than factory aluminum heads.

Edelbrock had a chance to make a decent head and just didn't for some reason.
175 cc intake ports 1.94/1.55 valves, crummy valve springs with low pressure and cheep wire that will not last long, etc.
The only thing they got close to right is that they did not make the chambers huge. The shape is still a down grade from the alu LT1 chamber shape but at least its close in size.
If they made the head 15-20 cc's larger and used 2.02/1.60 valves and used a lil better dbl spring on the heads it could be an OK head. As it is I would say iots about 15 HP over a set of factory GM LT1 heads that have been cleaned, valve jobed and surfaced.
Sure you can drop $$$ on them to port, upgrade valves to 2.02/1.60 and better springs but at that point you are dumping about the same $$$ into them as you would stock castings and end up with about the same thing other than if you do stock castings you will still have the Edelbrock heads to sell.
