For a 94 my understanding is that the sail panel speakers are run off of a built in amplifier in the stock head unit

Nope there should be an amp under the sail panel on the passenger side.
There is a power antenna wire in the factory adapter harness that you wire to the aftermarket head unit harness. Instead of connecting that to the head unit antenna lead, splice that in with the switched 12v wire (either the yellow or red, I can't remember which, been a while.....red I think). That way the amp will get constant power when the head unit is powered.

I hooked up the blue/white wire (power antennae wire on my Pioneer DEH-150mp) to the red wires, and it still wasn't putting bass through. Do I need to do anything else or is this a loss?
