I've been running MSD coil for as long as I can remember without a problem,but I kept the stocker just in case.

Same here, I've had mine for years without issues. I didn't notice any difference though, I just replaced a bad stock coil with it. I also ran mine with a 6AL for a while, didn't seem to affect it.

Check the resistance of the coil cold and hot. Maybe heat is causing a short or open in the windings.
'97 Z28, Small Cam, Stock Heads/Intake, EWP, Full Exhaust/Cutout, UMI, SS3600, 3.73s, Toyo TQ, ..slow.

8231 is the one I have. But it is just weird now. Wouldnt work so i got a new one. Then i tested for the heck of it and it worked again. I drove it today on the msd coil without any issues, went about 50 miles.. isn't making to much sense to me now. Ill go ahead and check resistance.
