So, doing a few items to my car, turns into getting the motor pulled...

Okay, so I am doing some general maintenance items on my Z (fuel filter, changing the clutch, new spark plugs, replacing the shocks ect.), as well as upgrading my Hooker LT headers to a larger set of Kooks headers.

I am having a friend of mine do the work (he has helped me out before many times). I go into the shop where it is at, and there in front of me the motor and tranny are completely out of the car! I really didn't expect for things to get this serious!

He assured me that there were a handfull of things that needed attention (like fitment on some things), and he just wanted to pull it to be done right. All said and done, I am lucky to have my buddy take care of this how it needs to be, but I just feel sorry for him because it seems to happen every time. I take something to him that seems fairly minor, and it turns into a huge ordeal.

It's actually kind of funny. I hate bringing him the car because he hates working on it (as it ALWAYS seems to be a much bigger job than where it started). But at the same time, he really takes care of it, and there are few other people I would let work on it, so he is usually my first choice when it comes to this sort of thing.

I just feel bad for the guy always getting hosed into a bigger more difficult job than what I planned on. I had planned on paying him a certain amount. Now, I think I'm gonna have to give him a bit more.

The first time he worked on it, the car had broke down and I wasn't even sure what all was wrong with it, I was broke and didn't have much money, I just left for the military, and didn't know when I would be home again. He and another really good friend of mine decided to fix the car for me as a gift for going into the military. It ended up being a major effort and it was literally months of wrenching on it before it was finally dialed in. Then on top of all of that, they wouldn't even let me pay them. They wouldn't accept any pay for the parts or all the time they had in it. I've always kind of felt a special debt to both of them for that.

But this time I made quite clear off the bat that the only way this would work for me was if I could pay him. He accepted since he just blew up his competition pulling truck and is in need of some money.

sounds like what Im about to go through on my car. I was just going to replace the clutch (and everything related) and then found that my intake gasket is leaking. So now Im going to replace the intake gasket, valvecover gaskets and rear main seal. While the car is down Ive decided to delete EGR and AIR. Since Im gonna do all that I might as well replace plugs/ wires and install a set of longtubes. Should be easier to get them in with the tranny out of the car.
