alternator power wire
i have aftermarket gauges installed and i was told that the alternator power wire is run off the gauge cluster and that the alternator power wire has to be hooked up to a switched ignition source for the battery to charge.Does anyone know how true this or how to do it ?

that is not the case your gauges do not effect your battery charging

i am curently looking into this for the lt1 swap. it looks like there is a wire in the plug that has to have some type of key on power in order for it to start charging. i beleve it is the wire on position "L"on the plug

Thats the sense wire. Everyone I know that has done swaps has either gone with single wire alt's or taken the the sense wire and connected it to the fuse boxe's feed. Its my understanding that the wire needs to see a slight voltage drop in order to charge properly...
