96 Camaro Z28 Harness in a 94 Firbird Formula
Ok I am trying to figure out whats going on with my car and at this point I am starting to believe it might be the wiring harness.
My motor came out of a 96 Camaro and I put it in a 94 Firebird. (LTx Motor)
I can not get spark, new ICM, Tested coil, New Opti, New ECU nothing.
So I have been thinking about pulling the engine bay harness out of the Camaro and putting it in the Firebird. I will be staying OBDI so I am not sure if this would work... But I am out of idea's and no one else really seems to know what to think either.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible?Denny Crane /Rotary = Fail\

IIRC the OBD2 cars have a crank position sensor. And the OBD1 harness would not have that pinout so maybe there is your problem?

My 96 motor does have the CPS but its just not connected to anything because the 94 did not require it... the 96 harness will add it but from what I heard you could just swap the PCM and the Knock Sensor and it should be OBDI then... I am not sure but I am again out of ideas.

Exactly. Your using the 94 OBD1 PCM not "seeing" the CPS and your adding in a motor with CPS. Thats your problem

If it does not know the sensor exists and its not plugged in why does it matter? There is not even a connector for it the 94 motor did not use it... you lost me there.
Somehow the sensor is causing this because its not connected in a car that was never ment to have it?Denny Crane /Rotary = Fail\

check all the wiring that the engine harness connects to, like where it goes thru the firewall and connects to the dash harness and chech the plugs on top of the passanger wheel well. look at the actual wires on the plugs and see if they match on each side when connected. espicially on the dash harness. i had to look up wire pin diagrams on shbox and swap some wires around to match it all up.
i did the exact opposite swap as you are doin, a 93 lt1 into a 96 firebird. and i had all the problems your having. no spark or anything, like its dead.
hope this helps

So you found the problem to be the harness then? Or what all did you do to fix the problem?

yea i found the problem and it fixed it all. on my car all three plugs that connect to the engine harness under the dash were the same plugs and it plugged up fine. but if you look the each plug real close some of the wires do not match up, and some places where theres a blank spot on the plug the other plug that connected to it has a wire there. so pretty much the wires are arranged different. its kind of complicated to get it straightened out. to figure out which wires are which look at these pin outs, http://shbox.com/1/harness_connector_faces.htm , you'll need to compare C230,C220, and C210. and slice the wires so that they will match up in those diagrams if you have any that dont, just compare the 94 column to the 96 column to see what doesnt match up.
im not 100% sure if this is your problem , but it deff. was with mine but it was a 93 so not sure with yours. just trying to help you out, cause it took me a while to figure it out.
