Default I smell fuel when the car is on

I have a 95 z28 vert m6. I went to get a smog for my car I live in califorina. My car I's completely stock he said I probably will not pass cause he can smell unused fuel. It didint pass it failed the ignition timing check. He says since the ignition timing is off the car is not burning all the gas He says the ignition timing is off or can be the fuel regulator. I want to know if there any other reasons why my car smells like gas and how I can check to see what is the problem

Same thing here, couldn't pass because there was unburnt fuel but we failed the test by a hair. We changed the oil and filter, fuel filter, and also make sure that your car is fully warmed up when doing the test.

Make sure the car is running at temp when the test is done.

Pull the vacuum line on the regulator, if there's fuel in there, the regulator is bad.
