D'OH: wrenching fail
So I have been trying to get my 65 SS looking nicer under the hood.
I bought all sorts of goodies for it, including a FAST (Crane Cams) XR-i points eliminator kit
The car ran before, but a little bad and was hard to start (typical old points stuff)
BUT I have gone through the instructions like 10 times and I cannot get the car to run
Finally I get the coil to start pulsing, so I put the cap back on and crank, no start...
Get back out under the hood and I see the rotor sitting on the radiator... FAIL x1
I pop the cap put the rotor on and start to crank it again, looks like its going to start, then it backfires and coil stops pulsing. I give up for the night
Next day I get back in there and I see it, I had wired up the distributor like on a Pontiac, counter clock wise.... FAIL x297 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,

Think many of us have been there. I call them brain farts now. LOL. Smart man to walk away and start fresh the next day. Glad to see it all worked out. You'll have to post up some pictures.

Yes with those point eliminantors you have to have 12 volts. Check that and good luck.
It's not how fast you mow. It's how you mow fast.

Your starter should have on the solnoid a termanl marked I that for itsfor the coil + termnal it gives the coil power so when you are in start mode the coil gets a full 12 volts or at least 12 volts at start after you let off the key that termanl isnt engaged . While starting you will loose some voltage to start run cause the starters take some amprage and volts to work.. More so on the older starters some take 20+ amps to operate so yes you will see a voltage drop when starting
