Opti-AC ?
Last fall the opti threw a code 16 when we were driving with the AC on. Ac was cold. After the spit and sputter and the ses light came on for the opti code the AC started blowing warm air. Coincidence or will are cars go into a limp mode when certain codes are thrown causing the AC to do this. I am hoping not to have to replace the compressor too. It was a AC delco with only a couple thousand miles on it.

Sure you didn't have any code beside DTC 16? DTC 16 does not turn on the SES light. When it sets, the only action it takes is it shuts down the fuel system = engine stops running.
