I have a good 700r4 core out of my 87 trans Am that I could get someone like Cahall to rebuild. I am tired of shifting the camaro and am playing around with swapping my m29 6 speed out. What would i need? Driveshaft? trans mount? My Head Checked?? LOL Also what would a good m29 with a Spec 2 clutch and billet flyweel and all the other stuff for 6 speed conversion be worth?
You will the trans mount, flywheel, and of course the auto shifter and swap pedals(if you dint want the clutch pedal just floping around lol). The drive shaft is the same for both trans. so your good there.
not sure on the computer part. I never worked on 93 electrical.
As far as M29. there junk you should just give it to me;)
I've sold just the trans and bellhousing before anywhere from $1000 to $1350 depending on miles. You will/should have to weld in a new piece covering up the hole where the manual was sticking through. Nothing to worry about with the PCM controlling shifting but not sure about speedometer.
93 has no computer control over the trans. Speedo for me is no biggie as I am a GPS speedo now. I was gonna swap out to a auto pedal set and include the pedals with the conversion kit (if I eventually do this). The trans has 65K miles and has had the fluid changed about 10 times. It has a pro 5.0 shifter too. I am just wondering if selling my setup as a complete coversion would cover most of the conversion to auto for me. Also what converter would be good for me? I am currently ~ 400 Flywheel HP / 420 Flywheel Tq with a 3.73 rear.
There are many factors to determine what converter is best; gear ratio, HP/TQ, weight, cam, type of racing, or just street use, etc... I always talk with the one that builds the converter first and let them help me decide. For me I've had great luck with Edge racing. I just ordered my third converter from them last week. If you're going to have Cahill rebuild the trans he can hook you up with a good converter too.

Jay you'll need the following: pedals, shifter assembly and associated components (shift lock assembly, etc), transmission mount/support as its different from the m6, TV cable, tab that has the third tab for the TV cable, reprogrammed chip for an A4, and some custom wiring. The computer does have TCC wiring going to the trans. Six wires in total that would need to be wired in to the pcm. Plus you'd have to wire up the PNP switch on the shifter meaning you'd need to route the backup lights wiring from the exterior harness into the interior. Clutch safety switch you'd need to reroute and extend the wires to the PNP switch for the park safety cutoff.
Its a far easier undertaking going to an m6 instead of from.

It would make it much more simple to go with a non lock up converter and convert the trans to non lock up. This would eliminate the need for retuning and a lot of the rewiring.
Course, a TH350 could solve that too right? :DQuote:

If you are swapping I would be eager to buy the 6 speed console insert from you if it's in good shape. When I converted from auto to manual I had a hard time finding one from a 93 with the shift pattern in yellow. I ended up buying a 94+. If I can locate my auto console insert maybe we can work out a trade? Mine has the yellow letter/numbers from a 3.23 car so it does have a "1" for first gear. Just wanted to throw this out there!
So what did you decide? Ever sell the m6?
Haven't decided anything yet. I am deep into my 3rd gen project so my car is sitting under a cover for a while
