Today is the worst day
Well this all started when the police came to my house. They told me I had to get rid of one of my cars (1989 firebird w/ 5 speed 350). So I was taking it to my work when the car just died and started smoking from under the hood. I popped the hood and got out. The engine compartment was engulfed in flames. I tried to put it out while my friend called 911. The first cop showed up and just stood there watching it burn. It took a mechanic from a shop up the street to put it out for the cop to do anything. As soon as the fire was out the cop was a dick. He started calling me a dumb*** why would I have a car on the road that would start on fire and he hopes I have fun taking the bus to work. So I got to watch my first car burn and deal with a dickhead cop. Leave it to the police to make a bad day worse.:(

Sorry man. For very good cop there seems to be 10 bad ones. I was pulled over and searched one night by 4 cops that all kept talking shit about me and the car.
Is the car a total loss or did you save it?

well its salvageable but id have to rewire the whole engine, get a new master cylinder and other misc items. Right now I have two options fix it or strip it and use the parts to make a 1991 firebird I have a B.A car. I just wish it didn't have to go down like this...

Damn man that sucks!
Sound's like a perfect project LS1 swap 3rd Gen ;)

aww man that sucks!! What a ****!!!

god dude!!!!! i would have said to the cop "takes horse power to break parts asswhole," (or start on fire in your situation) :) lol prolly not the smartest thing to do but i would be pissed!! sorry man

Obviously you don't have to 'get rid of it' but sorry to hear about your car.
My brother's SVO caught fire, but luckily someone stopped pretty quick with a fire exstinguisher and he was able to pick up a new wiring harness and fix it relatively cheap (~$500)

Ok let me elaborate on this a little further, since, I was there for half of this.
2 days ago, I was outside working on my Camaro, most of you are aware of my braking issues. I was attempting to fix that issue. Anyhow, as I was walking out of my house to begin work, there were 2 cops on the drive way. I asked them if I could help them with anything, seeing as how they were un-invited.
The first officer was a total asshole, and his partner was about as nice as you could possibly ask for.
They were there because someone in our neighborhood filed a complaint that we had too many cars on the driveway. Our driveway can fit 6, and we have 6. Well it turns out, lockport passed a new ordinance where a drive way can only have 5 cars max. Since 2 of the cars are "projects", the officer told us they need to be moved, or start under their own will, meaning no battery charger, no other items to help it along the way. 1 of the 2 could do that, which is the car Steven (formula 350) attempted to move.
So, this dickface cop goes on and on blah blah, so he closes his stupid argument with " you have a week, then I'll come back with a tow truck, because I have that power, that's my job" Then he stuck a tow sticker on both of the 2 firebirds (the 2 project cars).
He left and the other nice cop stuck around. He gave us some details on what exactly the problem was, which I don't need to get into since it's totally unrelated to this.
At this point, I finish my car.
This is now the next day. I'm not home but at my girlfriends house. So I was not present at the scene of the fire. However, I will say this. The car was fine where it was, and would have been fine. If we weren't forced into moving it, we wouldn't have come to this problem. It just sucks that we were trying to comply and the car burned.
Oh yeah, Steven got some tickets also... wtf is that?

Not really sure but almost (if not every) every city/jurisdiction has an inoperable vehicle code. Which basically states a vehicle can't sit in a inoperable state for more than 3 days (So you guys should've had a three day grace period I would think)
The inoperable vehicle code doesn't apply to vehicles in the garage, do you have room in the garage? (Not that it matters now)

Thats a bummer!!! I would call and make a complaint about the officer. It probably wouldnt do anything but the officer will at least hear about it, and maybe just maybe he has treated other people the same way and they complained also so he might just lose his job or get written up for it!
