need help with "reading" these bearings and pistons - 383 Rebuild. PICS
Hi everyone - FNG here :)
I am hoping for some insight on what I found inside my Stroker. Some I expected to see, some I was surprised by. I have pics below for your viewing pleasure. Quick background - engine lost oil pressure after sitting for some time. The engine/T56 combo is from a 95 camaro. They have been transplanted into an 89 C1500 truck. Engine was professionally built back in 2005, and I have had nothing but issues ever since. I have made multiple repairs myself over the years including: multiple sets of lifters and new valve springs to correct the valve float, head gaskets, wiring harness and data port repairs, and many other small issues.
2 years ago, while starting and idling the truck, it lost oil pressure. I know what caused the loss of oil pressure, which ultimately led to me pulling my engine and trans out last week, and tearing the engine down this past weekend. The engine builder installed a high volume oil pump. I was having oil blow by issues at high RPM, so he told me to run 20w-50 because it wouldn't blow by as much. I thought it was BS but i figured he knew what he was talking about. years of running the heavy oil with the high volume pump caused my oil pump drive gear to shear off and shower the engine with its remains... The engine sat untouched for 2 years until I had the time and money to invest in it again.
I have a reputable machine shop that has done work for me before, and the block, crank, and heads are all going in for a check up in a week or two.

Here is what my questions are:
can you help me diagnose what the bearings tell me?
what happened to the edges of the pistons and the skirt areas? is that normal? piston slap? I'm not sure what that is.
i need a new cam and have no idea which way to go with it. looking for a nice lope at idle, and nice power up to 6k.
WTH do these markings on the old cam mean? doesn't make sense to me
ill upload the pics in a few min once I figure out how :)
thanks for any and all thoughts and input you can provide.
