My Pros and Cons in a small town PD.

Thanks all... I appreciate the support.

I have laid out all of the issues with this previously both by telephone and by email, and was met by sarcastic complience (which is no compliance as all)... They dont give a damn because the Insurance companies Doctor gave the green light... if anything happens, it comes back on him.. the twp is protected.... Most humans in the HUMAN business (police officers) you would think would care about protecting and serving our residents, rather...these only care about fucking with me...

0800hrs I start my shift. In fact I have physical therapy at 1230 and was advised that I must use my accumulated LEAVE time to attend therapy which the insurance company is still paying for, which was CAUSED ON THE JOB.... Therapy for a problem...which is apparently NOT REAL.... WTF.....

Wait so have to use your vacation time to attend therapy for a nonexistent problem that insurance is paying for? Do they cover Santa's sleigh and elves as well? That makes a huge amount of sense. Doc says nothings wrong so lets just approve him for imaginary problems and pay for it. That should be a red flag right there. Btw not saying you don't have an issue Larry making fun of that situation....

Glad to know its routine to pay insurance for an "imaginary" problem that's supposedly in your head. If they are still approving it to be paid for then there is obviously an issue and the paperwork between the doc and the pd is getting skewed somewhere...

I know your not saying that... in fact I dont doubt that anyone who knows how much I love my job knows that all I want is to be back..... But not at the risk of hurting myself or others getting hurt.


And on top of your example above get this...

The doctor that is releasing me ,recently ordered that test that would say whether I go back to work or not... the results of that test were that all I could do was MODERATE DUTY...\


Prior to that, his report for my visit prior stated, that In his opinion I will never recover enough to go back to full duty (in writting)

Prior to that, his first report when I first had to go to him stated, Mr Hanna is clearly in pain suffering from a WORK RELATED INJURY....


I just gave you the history backwards... can anyone explain to me how the end result can come from adding the next three things up...?????

OK so in pain from work related injury, never be able to do full duty, and OK for moderate duty buuuutttt suddenly it's a full green light and with conversations we have had nothing has really improved so that's why I'm wondering if the doctor is being persuaded or if the paperwork if getting edited from doctor to pd

Have you been told for sure what you are doing tomorrow? Maybe they will have you doing non-patrol jobs. You know, bookin perps and such. Maybe a stakeout in a van or something. Saying "damnit, I didn't sign up for this". :) hang in there man. Its just another test. Eyes will be watching to see how you do. Do the best you can do, but don't hide the pain. If you can't do what they ask without hurting, just don't do it. I'll be praying for ya.

^This. Like I've said before, I smell a trap. Look out for number one man, if you can't do it, DON'T! No need to give them ammo when you already have everything you need to cover all your bases. Don't need to give them the "but he came in and did all his work with no complaints" argument when you're still really messed up. They will be watching you, like a freaking hawk, for any little thing they can use against you. It may be wise to (if possible) go in a little early to chat with the chief and find out exactly what his report says and make sure that he didn't have selective eyesight. I've seen it happen before with some of the guys I knew, and it's going to be up to you to look out for yourself and make sure that you aren't forced to do something you can't, either in actual ability or by doctor's orders.

Above all else, you have to look out for yourself, because no one else in your cutthroat department seems to care one bit about you.

Does your agency do it own dispatching or are you through PA State troop dispatch? I know of alot of other agencies use their light and mod duty officers as dispatch. We have had a few injured DSP officers come in and make phone contacts with complaints to free up road units.

Had to take some (all natural) sleeping pills last nite cause the anxiety was chewing me up....

LETS SEE...

First, no we are not self dispatched, we are county dispatched and when i hurt myself i worked light duty till october 14th 2011...when i was advised THERE IS NO MORE LIGHT DUTY....keep in mind the light duty work i was doing was investigations.... (detective work) work that some of u may remember had me followed home by a man with a plan to kill me.... thank goodness hes dead now...THANKYOU DELAWARE VALLEY ERT.) Anyways ...that means that apparently I solve all of the crime where i work... because as of now "we have no full duty..."


sooo today...with firearm qualifications expired...my vest expired and most of my stuff missing... i sat at my desk...and did LIGHT DUTY WORK... I made an appointment to have the tailor come in and size me for a vest..... rumor is i may go to the range on Friday.... so by Monday im guessing they will expect me out on the road.

When the boss came in he handled some things then we discussed the situation.... he speaks as though the writting is on the wall and ill fight the ins co dr and work my way right into being retired... which although is not what i want...is what i will do to make sure no one (including myself) gets hurt because of what im being forced to do.... As respectfully as i could... i told him that i know he has people whom he has to listen to... and i have people looking out for my best intrest as well... my dr and my two attys.... My union atty has started the process to challenge the findings of the workmans comp dr.... who knows how long that will take.... and till then i will have to start using all of my LEAVE time to avoid being put on the street... apparently the twp atty told my atty today that the powers that be are mad that i can drive on vaca to virginia ( they think we just went to virginia...lol) and they argue...i can drive around in a car... i advised i can... as long as they can guarantee i wont have any calls that will put me or anyone at risk.....

Finally... when i was on light duty... my therapiez and dr appt were something i attended ON THE CLOCK per hpw the twp treats work related injury.... now thay im chaged to full duty... i have to burn up my LEAVE time for work related injury rehab.... ugh... we are filing a greivance on that also...

all caught up... im tired.

Glad to hear it wasn't a total nightmare of a day. Hopefully this idea they have of you working with no restrictions will be short-lived. Sounds like the people who are fighting for you are doing things on their end of it. Hopefully that goes through sooner than later.

Now that you've got today knocked out, some of that anxiety might go away too.

Good to hear nothing went terrribly wrong today. Cant say it went right, but it wasnt a disaster...

I almost hate to read this because of what I know it does to you, but then again I still do because its wrong how they treat you and I know at some point it will be made right. You are doing what you can, keep with it and dont let them get to you...

If you stay strong, they certinly cant beat you.

Here is my facebook status... as much as it BLOWS... it makes me shake my head and giggle when I read it...


Besides the most obvious issues of going back to work under these circumstances... I walked in to the office today, and noticed my stapler was missing.... no biggie, then I noticed someone elses radio in my charger, mine was dead with a mangled antena that someone obviously swapped out for my good one (I take care of my stuff), ok, no biggie a lil glue will fix it... I open my upper cabinet and my flashlight is no longer on the charger, I pick it up and it is a gutted carcass... no battery...no bulb or inner mirror, Chief tells me he is getting LED heads , so again no big deal. He asks me when my Bullet proof vest expired, I go down stairs to find it is no longer in my locker, and I see the last uniform I took off when I got hurt still has my name tag...my collar brass and my award pins on it...but my badge is missing.... I go back up stairs to start making a list, and the two magazines I left in my desk that were loaded with .40cal ammo... are emptied and the ammo is GONE.... WTF...so this is what a nice car parked in the ghetto feels like..... welcome back Larry...

Man Larry this sucks to read. I can't imagine comming into work and feeling like your stuff has been sorted through like you weren't commin back, bunch of vultures. I've watched other Officers battle with the city and their doctors with only the FOP and their personal doctors on their side. Luckly the department admin tried to do their best but their hands are tied sometimes and when you run out of light duty stuff to do what can the admin do, they can't pay a guy to just sit and they don't have anything else that he can do. I hope it all works out for you, if you need anything let me know. As long as you stay on top of you doctor and attorney's to make sure everyone's on the same page I think you'll be ok. It sucks but it sounds like your gonna have to play the departments games for a few weeks, be careful.

the tailer comes on monday to fit me.... then it will take a while to get it.... but the chief already made it clear once im gun qualified he will give me his vest to wear ( not like he uses it, sitting in the office all day)

What are you guys wearing for a vest? We had PACA they were great thin, light, and flexable. Now we have Second Chance cause the PACA's were more $ and they have quite a waiting list for turn around. Second Chance just feels HEAVY, they physically weigh the same but they don't wear the same! Much thicker pannels for the same threat level protection and the carrier might as well be wool! The rep said the thicker pannels are required now for all vest's to reduce trauma, IDK but it's friggin HOT and cuts my trunk flexability by 2/3's.
