Two cylinders worth of valve seals to go (#6 and 8 sadly). After that, dump some oil through the lifter valley to clear any debris that may have snuck by (I vacuumed the shit out of EVERYTHING when I got done with the helicoils), and plan TONIGHT, yes that's TONIGHT, is to pop the cam in, get the timing set, get the timing cover all back on, and potentially get the valvetrain set back up (I have a manual starter trigger so that should go quick). But at the very least tonight I WILL have the cam back in the car with the timing set and timing cover back on.
Update what you get done then....
Ok, I got my queue to stop for the night. Was cleaning the timing cover, going to put the new seals in it since the timing cover gasket kit came with them. Can't hurt. So I pop the crank seal out, no problem. Opti seal (it's a Vented opti setup) is being stubborn. Lay the timing cover on the floor. One foot on end of the timing cover. The other foot stomps on the end of the prybar that's slid behind the seal. Nothing. Stomp hard! Suddenly my vision went white, this ostentatious lump grew from my midsection to my throat, I got light headed, and the pain.........oh the pain. That kind of pain only guys can understand. The pain of taking a shot right to the nuts. Yep, the opti seal rather forcibly removed itself, apparently at a warp factor of 10, directly into my man bits. So as I'm sitting here on a donut with ice packing the center and another ice pack forming a twig and berries freezer pop sandwich, I say, that was my stopping point for tonight.
On the plus side, the valve seal swap is complete, the new cam is all assembly lubed up and at home in the motor, and the timing cover simply needs new seals installed and it can be bolted up. HOWEVER, I did find one problem that I'll post a pic of tomorrow. The oil pump drive........does NOT sit flush with the bolt down point on the block. Drive is in all the way, but by no means does the hold down ear touch the bolt boss in the block. And it's cracked at the bolt hole in the ear too. I do NOT remember doing anything but unbolting and removing the drive. Will report back tomorrow with a photo.
Motor is in the process of being sealed back up. Then I'll finish up the wiring harness, then it's just about go time (again).
I have a few spare plastic ones if you may need one. Lmk
Ok, here's what I was talking about with the oil pump drive:

Doesn't get much better than this though:

The drive isn't engaged in the oil pump. Spin the crank until it drops in.
I'll double check but I don't believe it can go in farther. I think there's a lip on the housing that sits on the block and that's where it's at. Will spin it over tonight and see what happens.
Had the same issue. Featherburner is correct that you have to spin the cam for it to drop in farther. It's picky and required a couple attempts.
