New from Ohio
Hi there all,
I am from the greater Akron, Ohio area, Norton, Ohio specifically. I have a 1996 LT1 Corvette that I am in the process of building. We bought the car in July 2016 with 11,800 miles on it. It was the proverbial "old lady's" car. She bought it for her 50th in 1996. I have a lot of her paperwork. Currently the car has 19,000 on it. Of course in NE Ohio cars that are put away don't get much mileage on them.
The car sat for most of the 10 years prior to us buying it. We have fixed most of the issues from sitting. Currently I am assembling parts to build the engine, the suspension, the transmission, etc. I am a chronic haunter of Craigslist and have found some great bargains, a brand new in the tube LT4 Hot Cam, new in box wheels, LT4 Knock Module etc etc.
I am targeting 425/450 Hp and have the majority of the supporting parts in boxes. American Racing Headers, Trickflow Heads, LT4 Hot Cam, Comp Cams 1.6:1 Magnum Roller Rockers, 52 mm throttle body, newly rebuilt Opti (old is OK, there is an automotive engineer here in Ohio that refurbs and upgrades Optis) MSD-6A box.
Of course I had to purchase a Jet Interface box for the computer and sourced a dedicated XP laptop.
Suspension wise I have a Dana 44 that I am completely rebuilding and swapping in along with the full suspension from Banski Motorsports, Global West del-alum front bushings and new Bilsteins. So far I have completely gone through the brakes and redid the rear bearings.
Then I will get parts and go through the 4L60E and bring it up to 4L70E specs seeing as the parts retrofit.
I am doing this the right way. It has been on my bucket list to build a really nice ride. Earlier in my life I had a '65 ragtop that I had rebuilt from a bare frame. It was a nice car, but I had to sell it when I became a single dad. The money is in our house.
I found your forum here via a Google search. I am pretty sure I have most likely run into members that belong to other forums.
That is my story and I am sticking to it.
Good to meet you all.
By the way, drcook = david r., most folks just call me Dave
the stripes are paint, not a decal. I picked out colors that match the interior, ie: torch red and black
