Engine hoist mounting points

Can someone tell me what the best mounting points are to use when lifting an LT1 engine in order to remove the oil pan? What I've been reading is that I need to lift it about 3 inches in order to have room to get to the oil pan bolts and to get the oil pan out.

I'd probably go from the bolt holes in the fronts of the heads. But......why not use a support bar over the top, and just drop the K-Member down some? Or you could use a support on the bell housing and not even bother with a hoist.

Any of the 3/8" bolt holes in the block or heads should be fine.

yeah i used the ones on the front/back of the head. just make sure you dont have to much slack in the chain going across the motor or you will be hitting the cowl with it.

That's assuming there is nothing currently mounted or in the way of the bolt holes................I'm too lazy to want to remove anything additional. ;) I like the idea of a support bar over top or going underneath and lifting at the bell housing. I remember the struggles I had bolting in the K-member with the engine a few months ago.................I'm NOT going that route again. :D

Yeah, I guess I'm really only lifting the front of the engine. I'll see what requires the least effort on my part. ;)

Good point about hitting the cowl. I think I'm actually going to go from underneath and jack upward.

I was able rise the engine up by removing the motor mount bolts and rising the engine up with a floor jack and a couple of 2x4 blocks away to drop the pan to change the oil pump.
