Hey guys, going to school for auto body and my latest project in class was installing a V1 Trufiber SS hood on my '96 Z28 and repainting the bumper cover. This last Friday I got everything painted and began fitting stuff for the last time!
The fit of this hood could have been better. The gaps and everything are pretty decent (not perfect, but livable) but the way the ram air ducting is designed (Like that of an LS1 SS hood) on the underside of the hood interferes with the placement of the alternator. I spent a good amount of time cutting a hole in the ducting to clear the alternator and then fiberglassing in a recess and getting everything smooth. It turned out nice, but something I feel I shouldn't have needed to do. Apparently Trufiber didn't test fit these on a stock Z28?

looks killer im a bit biased when it comes to those :)
IMO if youre going to use black as your accent, a black sail panel would go well with it.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Need to do a little buffing on it and some more adjusting to get it to fit just right, but it's close! Can't wait to have my car back on the road.:metal:
I paid just over 500 for the hood, shipping was free.
I've thought about doing the sail panel black, but I enjoy the red. Seems the majority of the 93-97 Z28s had the black, I like being a tad different. The tail panel is painted black with the Camaro lettering trimmed out and a red back light installed behind a piece of red plexi. Brings the black accent around to the back of the car. The letting on the panel simply looks painted red during the day, and lit with the taillights at night.
I'm wanting to get a set of '68 Camaro 350 badges to install on the back sides of the scoop.

Thanks, I really like how the stripe turned out. I've had it in my head for a long time how I wanted to lay it out, something a tad different than you normally see. The gloss headlight buckets was kinda decided on last minute. It saved me a few extra steps and I liked the idea of having the all gloss to bring the black together and again a little different than the normal. Hopefully I will be all done tomorrow and will get some more pictures out in the sun!

That looks really good. Black sail panel would def. help tie things together. The backlit camaro things sounds pretty neat as well.

Sounds like the hood was made for people who put an LS1 air intake on their LT1's.

Sorry guys, no pictures, I was expecting more time to work on it, but have only had around 2 hrs the past few days due to a botched class schedule. Done buffing the hood, just need a touch on the bumper cover, then finish assembly. So hopefully tomorrow!

Man, that is sweet. I just put my SS hood on and new paint on the fenders ans front bumper. Mine is all red though. I have carbon fiber tail lights so I am thinking of carbon fiber letters to match.
Great job.
