I want to go with a pcmforless tune. I am leaning it towards having it emailed to me and installing it myself. I have heard there is something different about obd1 cars. Something like you can't just plug in the cable and install the tune you have to hook up something to the battery to install. Do i just need an obd1 cable? What all is involved in installing the tune?

Also as a side note i am wondering if i tell the pcmforless guy that need to pass emissions will he be able to make that happen. I will be running a cc503 cam with comp pro mag 1.6 RRs and 30lb bosh red tops NO cat. I'm sure they can answer this for me later but if you have any idea that would be great. Thanks

if ya need to pass emmisions do a dyno tune .a mail order tune is a generic tune and not one motor runs like another one so it could be lean as hell or fat ,not knockin brian as he did my tune before i got tunercats but it was way off and car runs so much better with a dyno / street tune .but do u have a sniffer test where u are ,as in ny if it aint 96 up its only visual

He tuned mine, did a great job. O.P. I have a 94 T/A and all I needed was a cable, software, and lap top. You could be thinking about the 93, seems I read they require an actual chip burn.

i have a PCMforless maiil order tune (full bolt on). I have to pass a sniffer in DE so i usually go back to a stock tune and put in my cats every 2 years. Anyway I use Tunerpro RT. I now have a Moates Ostrich (i have 1993 with a EPROM ECU) installed where my tune would go. I just pulg in the ALDL cable and I am off. All you need is the right ALDL cable http://aldlcable.com/ (USB or Serial) and a laptop running the tunerpro. Once you configure the tuning program with the right definition file for you 94 you can plug in and change the BIN file. I was scared at first, but my buddy walked me through it. I dont know how to "tune" the tables per say, but i can change my tune by myself. I have a buddy with a shop that does my tuning on a dyno. Once you get your equipment set up all you need to do is buy or modify your tune and load it on the ECU.
Finally on the emissions note, did you remove your AIR/EGR and cats? They (the tuner) will need to know that. If you did you will probally be able to pass with the cat put back on, If they do a visual in your state you may fail due to removing the AIR/EGR stuff. It is weird, but some places you cant even move the cats from a stock location. I have LT headers so I would be screwed. DE only checks the tail pipe and if it passses the sniffer i guess they dont care how it does it..LOL
