I am in need of one, and prefer to have the live data. Came across this little gem on Ebay. Was wondering if it is a piece of shit and a waste of money, or if it is a decent buy. I'm not looking at spending a fortune, just something that will get me by. Thanks.

I've been doing a lot of research on this as of late looking for one myself. First you have to decide what you need it for. Just to pull up the codes (code reader), pull up the codes and tell you what they mean with live date(code scanner), or to do it all and graph everything to track results of long term tuning (PC scanner).
There are several price levels depending on what you want, Actron makes good stuff of all types, then there are several PC based ones (assuming you have a laptop.
I found a few Actrons on ebay for $40 that normally went for $150.
You sound like you want a handheld stand alone code scanner. Actron even has a questionare you can go through to see which would be better for you. http://www.actron.com/ Then look for that on ebay slightly used. From that you can figure what other brands have the same options.
http://www.obd-2.com/ these guys have some good products that do tons of stuff and usually cost $200, but they are cheaper. all depends on what you are going to use it for.
