Im new to trans am and such and im looking to buy after this summer. I already know diff between a z28 and ss. On the other hand the pontiacs i have no clue about, what would all of you guys buy if you could do it over again? Year, body style, etc. Thanks

I have a plain old '94 Trans Am, non-GT. It came with a Firebird/Formula spoiler since the GT had the high rise. Graphite leather, t-tops, salad shooters... nothing too fancy.

I would either go for a '93 T/A or any LT1 Firehawk. Or a ram air Formula WS6. The 25th Anniversary T/A was nice too! But, I really do not plan on owning another LT1 anytime soon besides my T/A so I'm just making the car what I want it to be and having fun doing it.

I would either have my current car Formula WS6 or a Firehawk. I think Trans Ams a bit over the the top, and Formulas are very clean looking with all the performance and non of the extra weight.

if i could do it all over again i would stay with my trans am but would have to get a 6 speed with t-tops and the ws6 package but other then that its been a blast.

know the diffrence between them all is mainly the body. Formula is pretty much a firebird body with the lt1 drive train. the trans am has a high rise spoiler and lower front and rear bumer.

the ws6 stands for a suspension package that was available

ok so the formula is basically a trans am with a v6 shell, does it come with power windows and power locks?

I believe some did, they were options.

nope. the formula is a v8 in a v6 shell. trans am has the body kit.

Yes you could get everything a TA has in a Formula. Mine has power window, locks, 10disc changer, 10 speaker system, steering wheel radio controls etc but mine is a cloth, hardtop.

Trans Ams are for girls. Formula is where it's at:finger: But Firehawks are always cool. Except for the LS1 Firehawks.. because they did it to Trans Ams. :)

The WS6 is like buying a SS Camaro but better. Formula looks to plain IMO. If you want a v-6 look go formula. If you want style and a head turner, get a WS6 or firehawk.

fastcam91
12-23-2009, 07:46 PM
what diff factory upgrades does the ws6 have over the ss?

WhiteGhost94
12-23-2009, 07:56 PM
17" wheels, larger front and rear swaybars, ramair hood and air box, which was suppose to be good for a few extra ponies, 96's and 97's had different exhaust tips than the regular TA if I'm not mistaken (could be wrong)

WhiteGhost94
12-23-2009, 07:57 PM
oopps I didn't read your question right I thought you were asking the difference between the WS6 and the regular TA or Bird

Basicaly its the same car just a different shape. They get the same upgrades

did the WS6 get a different exhaust in 96-97 or is it just the tips?

AChotrod
12-28-2009, 11:21 AM
Im pretty sure just the tips were different and on the SS there was an optional SLP exhaust that could be ordered.

If you roll around in a formula body v8 you will be mistaken for a firebird 6cyl:hmm:. Theres no doubt what youv got in the Trans am ram Air.. plus the chicks love the Trans Am. Ws6 models have the 12 disc changer, but whats an extra 30 more tunes at that point.

bluebird94
12-29-2009, 06:29 PM
.. plus the chicks love the Trans Am.

I do love all f-bodies, but a Formula will always take precedence over a TA. Guys are more likely to be douchey when they drive a TA, and more likely to not know shit about what they're driving. Formulas are race cars, TA's are show ponies !

AChotrod

She is a girl^^^^^^ And most girls you see driving Birds are mostly V6s or Formulas. Most girls buy cars based on looks and not performance. So if girls love the TA so much how come they buy Formulas or V6 birds??

It doesn't matter whether it's a Formula or a T/A as long as you aren't considering a Mustang. Go with what YOU like and don't let anyone persuade your decision. :peace2:

I love the styling of the WS6 Formulas, I used to be a sucker for a WS6 TA but I like the sleek look of the Formulas. I get compliments all the time from older gentlemen who love my car. I think it is what old school is all about, simple but effective. I doubt my car will ever be mistaken for a V6, that 383 makes a lot of noise!

I doubt I'd ever get rid of my car, but I'd like to get ahold of a LS1 WS6 Formula or even a Firehawk.

I like the way both cars look, but to me there's just something about saying that I own a Trans Am. I have a base model 94, so only the bumpers and side skirts are on there.
Besides, something just doesn't sit right with me driving a car named after baby food :shiner: :D:)
j/k, like some others have said, it all comes down to personal preference. I happen to like T/As. So that's what I got. In the end, mustangs still cry like little girls, and LTx rules the world!:devil:

I prefer Formulas just because they lack all the extra plastic pieces and I think can just be made to look meaner. If you can get a good deal on a nice Firehawk I'd definitely do that.

She is a girl^^^^^^ And most girls you see driving Birds are mostly V6s or Formulas.
Really? I rarely even see anyone driving a Formula and it's never a girl at that. But none of these even compare to girls (that don't care about cars at all) driving v6 mustangs and camaros (also 2010 Camaros = chick cars).

I got what I wanted since I was 12 when I saw a 30th '97 SS. I didn't really want white but I'm quite pleased with my choice. Almost bought a white '96 WS6 before I bought the SS and part of me wishes I had but I'm pretty damn happy with my car.

Fo sho. If we're going to categorize into "chick cars", Camaros take the cake. I see a crap-ton of women in V8 Camaros, but I have seen one in an LS1 TA. Never another formula though.

Not very nice that you're so insulted by it! Just sayin that more women tend to buy/drive Camaros than TAs and especially Formulas, at least from where I'm from. It's not a bad thing...

The other women on here all have Camaros except for one other I think has a Formula? That purple/grey one with the gunmetal wheels...

I live in a city of 5 million people, more good lookin girls drive firebirds than camaros. Firebirds are sleeker and sexier than Camaros. Camaros dont have the same "class" birds do.

i got what you're sayin and i'm not mad! or upset... but it seems to me... at least on this site that its split isnt it? camarogirl and stephanie and then yourself and the purple bird. or am i missing someone?

at WSU its mostly girls with the pontiacs... varying in all models. and they are usually the 98-02 versions. but there really arent that many f-bodies on campus. and around wichita i would agree with the camaro statement but most are run down v6's.

edit: mikie... so not true! camaros back it up... vs just lookin mean! lol jk

lol, do the ugly ones drive more Camaros? I dont think we were splicing it up that way .. :)

Camaros do have more of a redneck-y background... But they're just as sexy as the birds. Though my car drives so much nicer than Sabaktes' Camaro (ha!) and for some reason, I can't see over the right side of the dash as well in Camaros. What's that about? I've driven three 4th gens and I always take right turns wide because I can't see close things on the passenger side of the car.. I'm not makin it up

I wouldn't worry about it -- they're entitled to their opinion. Looks vary by year and personal preference, but you still can say your's has more heritage, being that the Camaro was introduced before the Firebird.

Oh trust me, I was SO pissed when my dad sold his 88 Formula, it was supposed to be mine! I HATED 4th gens, I thought they were so ugly and girly and plastic-y! Obviously, my opinion has changed since then, but 3rd gens will always be number 1 in mah heart :)

^^3rd gens are amazing, i dont think that camaros are rednecky, it just sucks that they're stereotyped that way because you see people driving fbods and they look horrible. i see that alot here, both firebirds and camaros, makes me sad inside, i wanna buy up all of them and fix them if it was possible

HaHa Im sure jimmymudd was kidding.. I personal chring when i see a beat down 3rd gen, or most 3rd gens for that matter. Camaro is your heritage car and the t/a's are the show birds. Either can be made to go as fast as you want.

Yes you could get everything a TA has in a Formula. Mine has power window, locks, 10disc changer, 10 speaker system, steering wheel radio controls etc but mine is a cloth, hardtop.

Same here. Red '93 Formula Hardtop, light grey cloth interior, power windows, locks, 10 speaker system, steering wheel controls, but mine came with a cassette deck and no changer. No worries, though, I have a Pioneer in-dash DVD touchscreen now with the iPod interface, so I have a decent setup. lol

Good to see another Red '93 Formy Hardtop out there, I haven't seen too many of them. lol

When i was hunting for an F-body my only criteria really was it had to be an M6 hardtop. I like the t-top cars but just not for me. It really didnt matter whether it was a camaro or a bird. Stumbled across mine for what i thought was a good deal and jumped on it and i definitely dont regret it. Oh and just for the record... any female driving a V8 fbody is awesome in my book!

I prefer a t-top, but I ended up with a conv. The reason is I wasnt really in the market to get one yet but a guy at work gave me a good deal on a 96 m6 z fully loaded with 70k. All it needed was a full tune-up and the rear end redone which all amounted to about 400 got the car for 1250.:D

I forgot about this thread but I ended up selling my TA and bought a M6 Formula just like I said and other than the side skirts and the bumpers it's a twin
the only thing I'm missing is the TA had t-tops but the more I drive it that miss is fading

Initially wanted an LS1 WS6 or Firehawk and wasn't too keen on the LT1 Birds at first... but as I aged (35 now), decided that the 98-02 Birds were just too over the top and gaudy. Always liked the Firehawks after I'd seen a brand-new red one at my local dealer back in 1993 and an opportunity presented itself a couple years ago and the rest as they say is history. Wouldn't change anything if I were to do it again. Love the uncluttered look of the Formula with the low wing and lack of ground effects. The ROH wheels, Firehawk graphics, hood intakes and rumble of the cammed V-8 should tell anyone it's not a typical anemic V-6 Bird! :skull:

Had to have a leather interior and t-tops and luck was on my side when I found my Hawk.

The firehawk and t/a are the best looking IMO. I used to drool over the magazine pics in school of the 96 ws6. I had a 89 GTA at the time. I was looking for a 98-up ls1 model but the 4 nostril ram-air turned my off. also the money it cost for a ls1 car was more than three times what i paid for my 94 in the same condition. that money i saved paid for the entire chassis and trans to be built proof. All mods that the ls1 would have needed.
