Ok so right now i have your average full bolt on LT1 with some head work, custom LE cam (not yet installed), 3400 stall, built auto, geared and sprayed but have always wanted to go boosted but with the high cost of a pro charger set up i've been thinking about doing a custom front mount turbo and have put alot of thought into it the past couple months but the problem with it is that the last two local turbo LT1 cars have been pretty sad and i don't want to follow them with weak turbo set ups with one of them only pushing 400whp on 8lbs and the other if i had to guess would be 450ish with 10lbs.. And both of these cars are so called built LT1's with both futuring front mount kits.

My goal is to go to a fully forged 355 or 357 have the heads worked over more, do a custom FI cam from probably LE and keep the compression around 9.7:1 - 10.2:1. I know this is high for a boost application but i figured with fully forged internalls i could get away with it. The other idea i was throwing around is a dual walbro 255 intake set up and some 60lb injectors while running E-85 and about 15lbs. I'm not looking to build this right now but i'm thinking this will be my next build.

I guess my questions are.

1- What size turbo would i need to push around 20lbs if i wanted to
2- Will this fuel system handle the power or should i think about going bigger, and how does E-85 take to boost
3- How does a stalled auto drive with boost as far as launching and is there a down fall for high way pulls

Thanks for any input and any ideas on options and combos.

A 70mm T4 flange should get u upper 500s on 15-20lbs i would say..depending on how much is done to the motor.

Hounestly I would go with a precision T76 it will leave ya with some room to grow.

the dual walbro works nice! I did it to my car running -8an feed -6 return.

I have a 3600 stall converter and it seems pretty good, no complaints. I can build about 5-6lbs on the trans brake with no 2 step etc.

What kind of power or track goals do you have? You didn't mention any, so it's hard make a recommendation.

BTW, those built LT1's have something wrong with them.

Well the car is more of a street toy that does some fun run in Mexico most weekends, honestly i might make it to the track 1-2 a year.. I don't want it to be a track only car i just want it on the edge lol

Your first 2 questions on your list i can estimate for you.

1. A T76 will easily spool to 20#, but that much boost isn't necessary for your power goals. you could probably hit 600rwhp with a T76 @ ~10-12psi.

2. dual Walbro intanks, stock lines and 60# injectors should handle the hp you are looking for.

2. dual Walbro intanks, stock lines and 60# injectors should handle the hp you are looking for.He will need bigger injectors if he runs e85, which if is available I recommend. I run e85 in the rx7 and LOVE it, the only reason I would switch off it is if wasn't as available around here(if stations started closing down). I highly recommend looking into it.

With a 355 9.5:1 with stock heads/cam, t76, I went 10.80 at 127.8 on 11lbs in my old firebird. If you have head work and a cam, no reason the car shouldn't go deep 10's at 135+ on 12lbs or so.

The most important thing is you WILL need to know how to tune if you want a reliable turbo car. After doing the whole tuning with tunercat(with maf and then with 2 bar), I will never go back to a boosted lt1 unless it gets an ls1 pcm setup. Now tuning the boosted setup(5.3 in my rx7) is A LOT easier than the lt1 was with tunercats.

That being said....you could sell all your lt1 stuff, do a 5.3 swap and make 550-600rwhp with a turbo 5.3 for not a whole lot of money. :secret:

If i had the money i would buy a kit out right but that wont be likely.

You have no idea how many times i have thought about selling the old LT1 and doing that same swap.

yeah, I didn't recommend E85 at all because his goal is 600rwhp... pretty modest.
