I have a set of worn out 315 sumitomos and am contemplating other options. The drag radials look interesting, but I am concerned that they may not perform well cornering on the street. If you have some experience with any of the DR's in street driving, please chime in.
Another option looks to be the Nitto 555, looks like a mixed bag of opinions based on my searching old threads.

I've been running Nitto DR's on my vette since 2007. GREAT in the dry and corners, a little sketchy in the rain but FAR better than any of the other DR offerings. I have zero confidence loss hitting the corners with the 555R's.

That's good to hear about the Nitto DR, it is one I am considering. As far as driving in the rain, I figure none of them would be particularly good, but living in New Mexico keeps the wet driving to a minimum!
BTW, I just installed your heated 02 kit. Nice quality stuff and easy to install. The car is still running rich though, looks like I need a tune.

nitto555r are good just make sure you get a good amount of side wall. I've also seen nitto are coming out with an up grade version of the 555r. So you might want to keep you eyes open.
My nitto run great on rain or shine. You really got to heat them mothers up at the track.
I would probably go with mickey thompson next time.
Make sure you get that side wall. I run 555r 305/35/18 and i have lil side wall and i can bearly huck.

DR's are great for hooking up, and will hold well given a dry surface for traction both straight line and cornering. The bad news is they will not last like street tires, and are much more likely to pick up a nail or screw off the road than a street tire would.
The 555R's are a great lasting street tire that hook up decent. They won't hook up nearly as well as the DR however they will be better in the rain, are less likely to pick up a nail, and as mentioned previously, they will last a LOT longer.
I am a Nitto fan personally. They hook up great, but still offer some tread to last longer than more stickier DR's like Mickey Thompsons.
The stickier the DR, the better they hook up, the less they last, and the more likely you are of getting a flat.

i had a set of M/T drag radials on my car 26x10.5 and they hooked up almost like an actual drag tire. but for the road the only time i would tell u to drive on them is on the way to the track, and i never even attempted to drive in the rain with them.
i have never ran the nitto but i only hear good things.

Ive had BFGs, MTs, and Nittos. I prefer a Nitto as the best ALL Around DR. MTs do hook the best in a straight line, but Nittos also hook decent and handle the best. They also wear the best. I had 2 sets of BFGs and hated them. They felt like balloons out back, sucked in the rain and wear out fast as shit.

I've ran drag radials almost every day for 5 years now, with the exception of when it snows then I drive the jeep. The nittos are great at lower power, high 11's or slower and they will do ok. The mt dr's work MUCH better and the m&h is a great in between drag radial. I ran the m&h's all this year on my TBSS and they work great in the rain(very comparable to a nitto imo) and ran mt dr's on my rx7. I got a set of nittos going on my formula, first time I've ran the weaker hooking tire(nittos) in about 4 years though(except for when I quickly had them on my tbss when they came with a set of wheels last year), but since my formula is bolt ons only the nittos should be plenty fine since I got them super cheap.
If you just want a fun daily driver with a little better hook and are only looking to run high 11's or slower just go with a nitto. :jest:

Sounds as if the Nitto's will be my choice, my car is basically stock with long tubes and CAI.
Has anyone used the Toyo DR? http://www.tiresdirect.net/TOYO_Proxes_TQ_P315_35R17_LL_P5128C916.cfm?UserID= 2127411&jsessionid=ea305a6e827d1b184b31 This tire looks pretty good, but I don't see much talk about it on this site.

I have, I had them on my 96 in the 315's. They hooked great, I really liked them. I drove it in the rain a couple of times and never had any problems. No noticeable difference in the corners either. My car was basically a full bolt ons, tune, gears, auto. They hooked great for me at full PSI I could only imagine if you dropped it a little. Couldnt tell you about the track because I never went. I had the tires on there for about two months and sold the car with them on there. They still had plenty of time left.
