I got to run a call in the car.......:metal:

I wish it had been for better reasons (I'll explain) but the drive there was a rush.....

At a Christmas party last night at my g/f's brothers house that started around 6pm.... I paced my drinks and only had two cap/ginger ales the entire nite. At about midnight, I decided it was time to leave (since she was wasted).

I go out, fire up the car and pull it up to the front door... It warms up and Im helping my girl to the car.... then it happens... 0026 hrs, Countly radio calls my phone....

The on duty Officer is requesting my response to the scene of a double fatal vehicle accident.... My understanding at the time is an suv with 6 "kids" in it rolled on our major highway, and there were 2 ejections.

My g/f's sis and bro had already loaded her in my car, and strapped her in, so all that was left was to get to the scene..... let me tell you IT TOOK ALOT to control myself running a call with that car......

(see i was concerned for the Officer. on 6/14/08 he was the responding Officer to a vehicle accident with double fatality when a fox-body mustang hit a tree sideways, shearing the vehicle in half.... I was there for him that night as well responding on my crotch rocket.....

PICS FROM THAT CRASH BELOW...

)

So while enroute, I notify county (by phone) that Im responding in a white camaro with a black hood. As I hit the finally stretch, rowing through the gears, handling the Chief on the phone one second, and the dayshift supervisor on the phone the next second it all hit me... the reality of what I was comming up on AGAIN... It was almost like my vision went slow motion as I looked to my left at the three medical helicopters in the park next to my PD...

As I approach the fire police guys who have the road block set up, I watch them part the cones, to let me drive through.... I crest the hill, and shit slowed down even more, as I could focus through all of the emergency lights and spot lights.... I was able to focus on the sheet clearly covering one of the deceased...

I get out of the car (left it running to keep the g/f warm) and the cold air brought me right back to reality... time was normal speed all over again and it was straight to work.... being baraged by every fire guy who thinks they know what happened every assisting neighboring dept Officer who was filling me in on what they were able to learn from wittnesses... fielding phone calls to the county detectives to send out an accident recon team, making fire guys move trucks parked right on top of my evidence, talking to my guy who is slightly rattled from the sight, putting up crime scene tape to keep people from trampling and moving stuff.... and finally dealing with the media who wants the story even while we are trying to do things (not like they wont get a PD press release in the AM).

Then after walking the crash and almost calicly walking around the deceased to analyize the situation, its straight to the deceased, to pull the sheet........(lets just say the human body is very fragile.....)

damn that sucks. i couldn't imagine having to deal with those kinds of scenes. that wreck will effect a lot of people. its like that video i once posted where a girl in a T/A gets hit by a drunk and all her family experiences the crash at the same time she does.

kind of off topic but did anyone notice the firebird festival video in that link? i found that kind of humerous even though its about the bird itself, not the car.

What a tragic end to some youthful souls.... what scares me is i have a 13 yera old and he will be driving in a few years!

Hey POPO,
I sat in a small field one night (15yrs ago) finishing my report and going over a few citations that i had written, when i noticed a few females in a Honda Accord in and out of the community i was parked at.
As they passed by i noticed the bulge in the passengers lap was an infant, sitting there shaking my head knowing i needed to wrap my report up and head back they come out again so i lit them up,driver pulled over immediately. I address the female driver(no seat belt) first to see what they are doing,her reply was," moving" in an aggrivated manner so i asked for her DL and insurance....At this point the passenger with the infant became verbal. So i asked the passenger why that infant is not in a certified car seat her reply was we are moving and there is no room for that stupid seat, we are not going far! Now i am pretty upset with her carless attitude so i get her DL, issue both ladies citations for the obvious then they both became quite ignorant with the mouth saying i should be finding criminals and people breaking the law! hello ladies that would be you two i was thinking! So after they were done for the moment i excused myself to go back to my unit i pop my trunk get two pictures from a fatal accident that i worked the previous day and showed the passenger the pictures.........The pictures were of a similar situation, 3 month old baby in the arms of her mother that was hit head on by another car, the mother survived with minor bruises but her infant was found "in the glovebox'' needless to say i got in a bit of trouble for showing pictures of that nature but the females had a change of attitude and had a friend come pick up the baby with a certified car seat!
As a civilian you really do not get to see the things that officers do on a daily basis, much respect to you POPO and my former colleagues.

UPDATE:

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DECEMBER 14, 2009

District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Upper Pottsgrove Police Chief William Moffett announce their agencies are conducting an investigation into a fatal crash on Saturday, December 12, 2009 that claimed the lives of two teenage girls.

Shortly before midnight on December 12, 2009, Officer Jason Zoski of the Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Department responded to Route 100 between Farmington Road and Moyer Road for a report of a traffic crash with injuries. Upon arrival, Officer Zoski found that a one-vehicle traffic crash had taken place in the northbound direction of Route 100. Officer Zoski observed a red 2003 Dodge Durango displaying Pennsylvania registration DZH-5762 overturned on its roof and on top of the guardrail with several occupants trapped inside. Officer Zoski also observed that three occupants of the vehicle had been ejected. Officer Zoski found the operator was trapped within the vehicle.

Route 100 in the area of the crash is a four-lane divided roadway. There are two lanes of travel for northbound traffic and two lanes of travel for southbound traffic. A raised concrete divider divides the northbound and southbound lanes of travel. The roadway is properly marked with surface lane markings, which also include recessed roadway reflectors indicating the curb lane of travel from the passing lane of travel. Route 100 has a posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour. The weather conditions at the time of the crash were clear, dry, and it was nighttime. The roadway was dry and clear of any visible defects. The location of the crash is within Upper Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Responding officers identified six occupants from the vehicle. These include:

>Driver (male, DOB 9/18/1991)
>Front passenger (female DOB 9/25/92);
>Rear passenger (female DOB 6/4/92);
>Andrea Antonio-Harris, D.O.B. 12-7-1993
Rear passenger – Deceased;

>Breanna Brothers, D.O.B. 7-24-1994 Rear passenger – Deceased;
Rear passenger (female DOB 2/21/1997).

The teenagers were students at Pottsgrove High School, Pottstown High School, and Boyertown Junior High West.

On Sunday, December 13, 2009, Forensic Pathologist Dr. Erica Williams conducted the autopsy of Andrea Antonio-Harris at the Montgomery County Morgue. Dr. Williams determined the cause of death to be head injuries resulting from the crash.

POTTSTOWN — A "somber atmosphere" enveloped Pottstown High School on Monday as students struggled to cope with the deaths of two friends who were killed in a one-vehicle crash over the weekend.

"There's clearly a heightened awareness of how fragile all of our lives are and how quickly they can be changed," said John Armato, director of community relations for the Pottstown School District. "There is a subdued, somber atmosphere within our building being displayed by both students and staff."

Andrea Antonio-Harris, 16, and Breanne Marie Brothers, 15, two ninth-grade students at the high school, were killed and four others were injured in the crash that occurred about 11:49 p.m. Saturday on Route 100, between Farmington Avenue and Moyer Road in Upper Pottsgrove.

Armato said a candlelight vigil is being planned at 8 p.m. tonight at Pottstown High School to remember and memorialize Antonio-Harris and Brothers. He said the vigil is being planned by students and will likely take place near the front of the building. Pottstown and Pottsgrove will be playing a basketball game inside the high school gymnasium around the same time.

Two of the injured teenagers, including the 18-year-old male driver, reportedly attended Pottsgrove High School, the same school that suffered a devastating blow on Nov. 23 when two students, Michael Cantamaglia, 16, of Barto, and Andrew Case, 17, of Lower Pottsgrove, were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Route 724 in East Coventry.

"It certainly happened in such close proximity to what we just experienced. The emotional wounds have not even begun to heal yet and then this happened," said Dr. Bradley Landis, superintendent of the Pottsgrove School District, in reaction to the latest tragedy on Monday.

As news of the fatal crash involving teenagers spread throughout the community, school officials de

veloped plans to help students and staff cope with the tragedy.

Armato and Pottstown High School Principal Stephen Rodriguez met with high school staff prior to the arrival of students on Monday morning. Rodriguez used the school's television broadcast system to address students about the tragedy.

"We provided the teachers with some talking points that they could use in the classroom to address students' concerns," Armato explained.

Guidance counselors and psychologists were on-hand Monday to meet individually or in groups with students or staff members who needed to be counseled.

"We've had volunteers from the clergy stop in to meet with students and adults who needed to talk," said Armato, adding members of borough council and the school board also offered their assistance. "There have been a number of students throughout the morning who visited with the guidance department, just to talk or to be with somebody."

Students in the art department at Pottstown were busy Monday preparing two condolence projects to give classmates the opportunity to grieve and to offer support to the dead girls' families.

"Some students are leaving personal messages to relieve some of the sadness they are feeling," Armato said.

School officials said the district's Web site, www.pottstownschools.com (http://www.pottstownschools.com/), will be used to update the community about any student-planned activities and counseling services being offered in connection with the tragedy.

School officials also paid a visit to the victims' families to offer sympathy and support, Armato confirmed.

Given the reports that two Pottsgrove students also were injured in Saturday night's crash, Landis said the high school's crisis response team met at 7 a.m. Monday to develop a "game plan" to recognize students who might need counseling when they arrived at school. The crisis response team is comprised of guidance counselors, administrators and students.

"It was respectfully quiet. The students were talking," said Landis, describing the atmosphere at the high school and confirming that some students sought assistance from counselors.

Landis said information about the crash was "sketchy" on Monday and school officials were still trying to determine the condition of the two Pottsgrove students who were injured during the crash.

The crisis team was scheduled to meet at the end of the day to determine the needs of students and staff in the days to come in light of the tragedy.
