a buddy of mine had one and rean a 13.3. but i thought he had a few mods. that 0-60 in 4.6(car and driver) would make it quicker than GN and almost as quick as typhoon!

It's a GNX motor. Legit good for low 13's bone stock, and for 89, that was FAST.

The reason for the head swap was not due to flow issues it was fittment issues on the 3rd gen A/C box,the fwd head design gave the clearence needed to avoid modding the A/C system..

I wish i had more pics of the car! i spent more time working on that car than anything else. My buddy(Craig) the actual owner of the car was always setting up races and guess who was the ONLY one that knew how to work on it? Yup me!!!!!!!
Now that the car is gone(52k on the car btw) the car on KILL mode 28 psi,ET streets, front swaybar removed, mini mag4 chip,C16 race fuel,60lb inj. on the street did pull the wheels without a problem ran 138mph on the G-Tech and they are generally 5mph fast! 10.1@138 on the street, the car sold for 18k the next night!

0-60 in the mid to high 4's is down right impressive by todays standards and supercar impressive back in 89!!

So can I do that with a 3,8 v6 4th gen and slap a turbo on it?

tomsws6
12-03-2009, 08:38 AM
dont know about that. dont htink there the same block(GNX Block). maybe im not sure what the numbers are on the v6 nowadays. actually you probably could. just depends on how much money you had. I wouldnt mind throwing one of these TTA motors in my WS6!

Chris

Well I recall there a being a thread somewhere on a v6 fourm about swaping stock heads and intakes from different models that flow better and its all really cheap since the 3800 was used in so many cars. I highly doubt that they are the same blocks though.

Cost wise I couldnt see it being to much more expensive than turboing a lt1 , More engine bay room, 2 less injectors to buy.

tomsws6

thats true. i saw a TTA motor for sale on craigs list for like 3k with 30k on the clock. just buy that. lol

Fastest as in what??? 0-60? 1/4? Top speed? Two of the three I'm pretty sure it doesn't hold the record for (remember GMHTP testing a stock camaro to 12.89@110ish in the 1/4??).

What camaro are you referring to? Does anyone know what the GTP runs or any supercharged/turbo v6's

A 98 LS1 camaro, Evan Smith piloted bone stock to a 12.89@110 if I remember right.

I remember back in the day (probably 9 years ago) the group I would run around town with, there were 1 or two 89 turbo T/A's. Both were lightly modded. One was around a 13.0 car, and the other was mid to low 12's. Definatly fast, especially back then for what little was done to the cars.

I've seen 4th gen V6 F-bodies that had turbo's do 11's a few times as well, and it didn't seem like they really had that much money in them. Pretty impressive stuff.

I personally never liked the look of the 3rd gen Firebirds enough where I would ever want one, but I can understand how some of you love them.

The 3800 Series II in 4th gen V6s is nothing like the ones in the turbo TA/GN. People have gone fast with them [3800 Series II] though, the Intense car and ZZP both have cars in the 8s.
