ok i have a 95 z28, it has a...

1. k&n cai
2. smooth elbow
3. no screen in maf
4. throttle body air foil
5. throttle body bypass
6. no cat
7.flowmaster 80 series catback
8. tt2 with new 275 tires

i ran this set up last 2 weeks ago and 8/10 times my time slip was

2.0810-----60ft (soft launch b/c of spin)
5.8854-----330ft
8.9915-----1/8 et
78.93------1/8 mph
11.6322 ---1000 ft
13.8983 ---1/4
100.25-----1/4 mph

so my buddy has the same car as me, and he switched out his 160 thermostat and took his power tune off for the winter months, so we were over there and he said i could put his 160 thermo in and use the tuner...

i have these options programmed...

power tune, 160*, shift firmness, -1mph on 1-2 2-3 and 3-4, no rev, 6400 rpm...

now BOTH RUNS WERE ABOUT 45* OUTSIDE, ran on shell 93 oct. both times.

the results with the programmer... 9-10 times my slip was like...

2.06-----60 ft (still soft launch b/c of spin)
5.7614---330 ft
8.7685---1/8 et
81.81----1/8mph
11.3681--1000 ft
13.5761--1/4 et
101.72---1/4mph

so 13.8983 @100.25 with no programmer
13.5761 @101.72 with programmer

i dont think i would ever pay 300+ for the programmer,
but for free i like 3 1/2 tenths

Exactly, its not that they dont work. Its just that for 100-200 less you can get more from a mail order tune. Or for even around the same price (300-400) you could get some tune time on a dyno.

They work, just not as well as most of the other options out there (for cheaper) these days.

Great results though, Im sure you were more than satisfied with that nice gain.

you think with a pcm 4 less tune i could get a better time?

Ive seen PCM 4 Less squeeze more out of a hypertech tuned car. Mine was one of them I think.

The car was Hypertech tuned when I got it, and I had it done by PCM4Less shortly after. Although I dont have timeslips/hp numbers to prove it. Take my word for it, I know the car was a bit stronger.

So yes, Ive seen a few people gain more going from hypertech to something a little more fine tuned like a PCM4less tune. It wont be a ton, but it will be something.

I think Hypertechs are fine for a bolt on car that will see a more changes, but not worth it on a car with lots of mods.

Good write up. I have had both mail order and Hypertech. I don't have a dyno sheet or 1/4 mile times for either. However, In my opinion, Hypertech is great for gear changes and simple bolt on cars. A mail order tune is by far the best way to go though, exspecially if you can get some good data logs for the mail order tune.

I Cant remember last iv seen some good back to back proof. Would like to see how the hypertech runs with headers and orp. Im getting some break up with the hypertech on the top end above 5300-6100. disconected it to see if its a bad wire, valve float, or the hypertech tune. Great runs for free modded z.
