Well, the motor is out and I just wanna run by my plans and see what anyone thinks.
**Hotcam (stock stall w/o bogging at the line, and dont wanna run past 5800 rpm)
**1.6 stamped steel rockers (full rollers were quite loud in my last build)
**SUM-174000 springs, locks, retainer kit (worked well in my last build)
**PCM4less tune with timing pulled from the pcm
Anyone use the hotcam on the bottle? I was thinking of the 503 cam, but it isnt recommended w/o a higher stall, which on my Daily Driver I'd like to retain atleast 13 mpg . My current 15 mpg is gettin low as it is, lol. I guess what I'm asking, is "Is this badboy spray friendly?"
I wonder what I'll be running on the new setup? hmmm

Man I would have to check that tune out but I will tell you with my car when I had a cam only bolt on combo. I was getting 16 miles to the gallon with a 3600 stall, 4.10 gears and the cc306 cam. The drivability is not that bad with a larger stall and going down the road you can lock it up at what ever speed you want to help with gas consuption.
Nitrous will raise the stall on the stock converter. I also would not pull the timing in the tune. I would run an ignition box that will only pull it on the spray. That way you don't suffer from any loss power and milage from low timing. I don't personally like the stamped steel rockers.

I would diffently add a converter to the mix. A buddy had a hot cam/bolt-ons set up for awhile and he ran a 3200 Yank. Even a stock cam, bolt-on car will benefit from a converter upgrade. Why don't you want to run past 5800?

Converter is next on the list. I have actually been looking at the Yank line of converters, which seem to be a favorite around my area.
My goal is to basically keep everything simple. When you get into larger cams, and reving higher the supporting mods required to keep it going in the higher RPM band increase as well. Simple has been the key to any build of mine. It's when I try and get a bit more aggressive that things go south. I'd still say 6K is about as high as I'd rev though. I selected 5800 as a buffer zone.

had a hot cam with a 150 shot. pulled nice, but got borning quick, lol! the need for more is always there for me. i had a 3600 stall with 3.73's with the hotcam. drivabilty was excellent/fun. was getting 16 mpg. i would recommend a timing retard device instead of having the timing always retarded with a tune. with it being always retarded your n/a driving will be effected. which you will be driving n/a most the time anyways. and shift that thing at 6000, she'll handle it with no issues.

My buddies had been giving me a lot of grief bc I hadn't done the headers on the car yet. I initially had planned on grabbing em when the tax return came, but since the engine is already out of the car, it seemed like a smart idea to go ahead and buy the headers now and save a TON on hassle. The headers will go on 100% easier now :D.
After doing some looking around, I have seen similar setups (Hotcam and N20) @ 150 shot going a 10.9X. Just pulling these numbers from Desktop Drag, but If I'm on the Hotcam, headers, and the 125 shot, I should be right about that range. It looks like I'll have to back off my spray to a 100 shot unless I get to where I wanna do a cage. But a cage in my daily car seems a bit much. Pulling an 11.0 is the target...Do my numbers seem about right? I've compared them to 2 other drag simulators and they all come up about the same.
BTW thanks for the info guys, you've been a great help.

Finally finishing up the project. Taking everything apart was simple. Putting it back together....not as easy. It seriously seemed like everything wanted to break on the way back in.
Started the vehicle and it ran with a mild lopey idle for about 10 sec, then died. After that it wouldn't start, just backfire. The Opti-crap died again (thank god it was coved lifetime from Advanced Auto). Got the distributor back in and the Ignition Control Module was burned out. Due to trying to start the vehicle, the motor was flooded and the plugs were fouled out. a simple weekend project has now taken us 50 hours now with everything that has been a pain in the butt.
As a side note, have P/N ready if you are ordering from Advanced. 1 out of 4 gaskets were wrong >.< That added another day to the job.

I run the hotcam with a 150 shot. My car runs 13.9 on motor and 12.0 on the jug.

hot cam, no stall, 4.10s, 75 shot
1.71 60 ft and 12.3 at 112 is my best time.
you wont hit 10.90s with it but possibly mid/high 11s if set up correctly. plus a 150 shot! lol

To make it short, we had....complications. The roller tip broke off one of the rocker arms and caused the arm to compress the spring only, not push the valve. Locks came out and down went the valve, but only a little bit.
Heads are now off, and sent out for some work. I wanted to port the heads, but didn't know it would be this soon, lol. Some 2.02/1.60 valves will be going in after the porting is done. Summit is sending a new set of rockers (refund included), and hopefully will not break this time. I hope its a fluke 1 out of a 100 chance that these break, but who knows. My dad ran a set of these once before, but with less issues :)
So the 11.78 in the 1/4 i was running on stock cam/manifolds on the bottle is a thing of the past. Maybe I can lower my shot now
