1995 chevy silverado std cab short bed 4x4, drum rear brakes disk front, has abs. just recently the rear resivor went somewhat low abs light came on. Added some fluid to it and took it for a drive. Abs light is now off but it still stops for crap and makes a loud noise kinda behind the brake pedal/firewall area upon hard pressure the sound is like a mix of crunching noise and the noise of a spring going dooiinngg and a mix of a hum, its extemly hard to describe but the pedal goes to the floor when it makes the noise and the pedal pulsates back as u hold it to the floor under stoping pressure. what could this be? power brake booster is the only thing that comes to my mind.

thanks in advance.

I'm no expert on the in and outs of the entire braking system, and I really have no experience with drums, but I would bleed the lines to make sure no air is in the lines, as well as a good visual inspection on the fronts and rears.

Does it feel like the noise is coming from either the front or back specifically? Some shops give free estimates. That might be an easy way to track it down.

the noise sound like it comes from under the brake pedal or the firewall area it seems to be louder when the windows are up, there no noises coming from any of the wheels. thank you for the reply i might call around an ask but shops around here try to stick u with everything. Im going to try bleeding it an see what happens though tomorrow night.

sounds like the abs is acting up to me but its just a semi educated guess,,can you disable the abs with a plug or something and try it?

If you end up taking it somewhere, try one of the "Tuffy" or "Midas" type shops. They generally won't try to stick it to you as bad as the dealers would, and they generally specialize in exhuast, suspension and brakes.
